Maryland University offers business course for Indian students

Aziz Haniffa reports on a business management programme the University of Maryland is offering Indian graduates.

The University of Maryland University College in partnership with Hughes Communications has launched the first of its kind certificate programme in Global Business Management for graduates in India.

UMUC President Susan D Aldridge said that it was one of many partnerships the university has developed "through which to extend its international horizons."

She said UMUC was "pleased and proud to partner with Hughes Communication India Limited to provide global insights and business perspectives to Indian students through our online Global Business Management graduate certificate programme."

"This programme is designed to attract the best and brightest working professionals and graduates in India who are keen to upgrade their knowledge quotient and position themselves to compete in the global marketplace," Aldridge explained.

This is, Aldridge says, a first of its kind tie-up. The course is structured to prepare students to serve as mid-level managers in a global enterprise, and is supposedly tailor-made to the needs of managers already working in a global organisation, to entrepreneurs who must fill multiple roles in their own companies, or to mid-level employees who wish to move into management positions or into a different market sector.

Partho Banerjee, president and managing director, Hughes Communications India Limited, said, "With the changing face of the Indian economy over the last few years, there is an increasing need to obtain, improve and enhance the in-depth knowledge in business administration to match global standards.

"UMUC enjoys a worldwide reputation as an award-winning leader in online learning and higher education, and our partnership with this premier institution is an endeavor to provide the relevant academic edge to the Indian students through a comprehensive curriculum that will empower them to take on the challenges they face at work."

The programme runs for a one year and on successful completion, students will earn a graduate certificate in Global Business Management.
