Hands-on learning camp on robotics for kids

October 29, 2010 16:37 IST

What: ThinkLABS Technosolutions announces Robocamp, a hands-on learning camp based on robotics and virtual robotics for schoolchildren in Mumbai.

About the camp
The camps kick off on October 30 and will continue till November 13 in Reliance World stores across five locations: Juhu, Mulund, Powai, Borivali and Opera House.

ThinkLABS aims to introduce children to the world of robotics and virtual robotics which will help students understand the principles of science, technology and mathematics in a fun-filled and interactive manner.

Robocamp has been designed keeping the academic curricula in mind. Besides introducing participants to robotics, the camp will elucidate many principles of science and mathematics through interesting demonstrations and hands-on robot building sessions. ThinkLabs trainers will train young minds create a variety of robots like Scorpion, Gripper, Soccer Playing Robot, Line Follower, Obstacle Avoiding Robot, etc.

This year ThinkLabs is introducing a brand new concept -- virtual robotics -- that will enable a child to create his / her own PC game, using the principles of human-machine interaction and animation.

Spread over six days the camp will provide hands-on exposure to robot programming using hardware and software. Participants would spend two hours every day learning how to build and program robots using sophisticated robotic kits. Depending on the type of program they choose, at the end of the camp, the children would be able to take home the robot they built.

Participants would also be eligible to enter the National Robotics Competition (TRICKS) to be held at IIT Bombay. The champion will win a trip to NASA.

Eligibility
Robocamp Junior and Robocamp Virtu are for students in classes IV to VI, while Robocamp Senior and Robocamp Advance Senior is for students in classes VII to XII.

Each batch comprises not more than 10 students and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested students are advised to visit Reliance World and register for Robocamp at the earliest.
