PIX: World War II-inspired fashion

Last updated on: September 18, 2010 21:29 IST

Day Two of Lakme Fashion Week opened with a showing by Amalraj Sengupta, inspired by the tragedy and drama of World War II.

In designer Amalraj Sengupta's own words, his collection showcased on the second day of the LFW was "an amalgamation of imprints and impressions of war."

The garments were rugged, heavily textured and over-dyed to capture the ravaged after-effects of battle, a "tragic drama", so to speak. Here's a glimpse.

First up we see a tie-and-dye silk shirt with shoulder embroidery, worn over deep blue woollen trousers.

Grey cotton gabardine trousers go well with a maroon woollen jacket, showing off a large waistband and pockets.

This skirt becomes asymmetrical at the hem due to the buttons and it's teamed with a red silk corset for effect.

The formal route

In a slightly more formal vein, a set of beige trousers with key epaulette and jacket with waist loops at the arm are worn over a brick red shirt.
