Your say: Work-from-home vs work-from-office

Working from office as well as from home have their own merits and demerits. If we were to list only a few then they could be:

Working from office helps in team building which subsequently helps office productivity

Working from home on the other hand helps improve quality of your work as you save commute time

While there can be votaries for each way of working, Internet major Yahoo! recently shocked its employees when it shot off a memo abolishing a work culture that the company was so famous for. This move, apparently backed by its CEO Marissa Mayer, has sparked a global debate on how best employees could innovate, enahnce their productivity and add value to the company they work for.

The memo observed that "Speed and quality are often sacrificed when we work from home," according to AllThingsD, a digital blog.

It further says that productivity and innovation happens during impromptu meetings and cafeteria discussions in office.

And that has got the world sharply divided over those who believe there are merits in working from home and those who subscribe to the other school of thought.

Even as the fire sparked by this debate spreads far and wide, we ask YOU, dear reader, this:

  • Should an organisation be flexible and let some of its staff work from home or divide time between ofice and home?
  • Speciically, has flexible timing helped legions of women remain productive while involved in child care too?
  • Are such people policies good for the company or do they result in less innovation and hamper productivity?
  • When are employees more productive and innovative? When they work from home or office?
