It will make you look slimmer and taller too!

Get the perfect posture

We’ve heard it said numerous times while we were growing up, ‘Sit straight’, ‘Don’t Slouch’, but we never really took it seriously.

Only when we suffer the pain and the negative effects of a bad posture, do we realize the significance of those words.

Although the pain feels like an irreversible curse, the truth is that bad posture can be corrected by simply sitting up and standing straight. But that takes time.

Before we delve into how to cure a bad posture, we must first know what the word ‘posture’ means.

It refers to the proper alignment of the bones of the body with the joints. The function of the joints is to absorb the weight of the body and so the joints are constantly under pressure.

In order to reduce the pressure on the joints a good posture is required.

Here are a few reasons for you to make good posture a priority in your life.

Look slimmer

Just by maintaining a proper posture, it is possible to look thinner than you actually are. This is possible because the spine is curved in such a way that the abdomen is curved inwards. Although a proper posture alone is not sufficient to lose weight, but it is the beginning of a shower of compliments for your supposed weight loss. That should motivate you to start exercising too!

Look taller

It has been observed that there is an actual increase in height, when a proper posture is maintained and corresponding exercises are followed. The pain caused by improper posture is due to compressed bones and joints. When this is corrected through postural exercises it can increase one’s height by a few inches.

Breathe better

Slouching has a negative impact on the respiratory function as this posture results in pushing of the rib cage, limiting the function of the lungs. This also results in reduced digestive capacity, which causes problems in the absorption and elimination functions of the digestive system.

Be happier

Although there is no scientific proof of the positive effects of a good posture on cognitive and mental functions, observations have been made that lean in that direction. This was observed when simple postural exercises such as poised sitting and standing positions were followed.

How to improve your posture

Right chair; Right Posture

Acquiring an ergonomic chair is not only more comfortable, but it helps adjust the position of the spine and upper body to a position that is neutral.

Awareness

Out of the many important things that need to be completed in a day, maintaining a proper posture is probably not on the list of things to do, and so it is good to get the help of a good friend to remind you when you slouch unconsciously.

Footwear that offer support and balance

Fancy footwear, although pleasing to the eyes, is not usually good for the spine, so it is better to choose shoes that provide support and balance to avoid hurting your spine.

Regular exercise

Certain exercises promote good posture, by strengthening the joints and muscles of the body. Yoga and Pilates are good ways to accomplish this.
