The top 10 business schools in the US

The annual US News and World Report's 2016 business school rankings is out. Read on to find out who's on top!

Every year, US-based news portal US News & World Report comes up with a list of best universities across domains.

This year, too, the team surveyed 464 schools offering master's programmes in business accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International in Fall 2014 (September to December) and early 2015.

Of the 385 colleges that responded, only 126 provided data that were required to arrive at the final rankings.

A consolidated list of rankings were prepared based on peer assessment, recruiter assessment, placement success and student selectivity.

We bring you the Top 10 business schools in the US as per US News and World Report.

10. University of Virginia Darden School of Business, Charlottesville

University of Virginia's Darden School of Business is ranked at Number 10

Tuition fee

Full-time: $52,380 per year (in-state)
Full-time: $54,698 per year (out-of-state)

Number of full time students*: 633

The Darden School of Business, established in 1955 is ranked tenth in the list of top 10 business schools in the US.

It offers a host of programmes -- both full time and part time -- in MBA, executive MBA and PhD.

So far, about 15,000 students from 90 countries have graduated from this school.

9. Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH

Tuck School of Business, Darmouth College

Tuition fee: $61,605 per year (full-time) 

Number of full time students: 558 

The Tuck School of Business comes in at number nine.

Started in 1900, it is perhaps one of the first schools to offer business management in the country.

Unlike other business schools that offer a range of MBA programmes, Tuck only offers a full time MBA programme.

8. Columbia Business School, Columbia University, New York

Columbia Business School, Columbia University

Tuition fee: $63,148 per year (full-time) 

Number of full time students: 1,270  

Next in this list is the Columbia Business School.

When it started in 1916, it had 11 professors and a class of 61 including 8 women.

Today it caters to over 1200 students and offers full time MBA, executive MBA and doctoral programmes in management.

7. The Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley, Berkeley

The Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley is ranked at number 7

Tuition fee

Full-time: $51,520 per year (in-state)
Full-time: $54,066 per year (out-of-state)

Number of full time students: 503 

In seventh place is the Haas School of Business.

Started in 1898, the management institute is considered among the oldest business schools in the country.

More than 2000 students are annually enrolled in the school across six different types of MBA programmes, including a weekend MBA programme. It has a staff strength of 250.

6. The Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University

The Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University is ranked at number 6

Tuition fee: $61,596 per year (full-time) 

Number of full time students: 1,047  

The Kelloggs School of Management is ranked sixth.

Started in 1908, the management school operates across three campuses -- Evanston, Chicago and Miami.

It is one of the few institutes that offers a two-year MMM programme -- a combination of MBA and master of engineering management.

More than 50,000 students have graduated from the institute so far.

5. The Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Sloan School of Management, MIT is ranked number 5

Tuition fee: $63,454 per year (full-time) 

Number of full time students: 812

Rounding off the top five is the Sloan School of Management.

Started in 1914, the Sloan School's first programme was a course in engineering administration.

It also offers an undergraduate programme -- Bachelor of Science in Management Science.

4. The Booth School of Business, University of Chicago

The Booth School of Business, University of Chicago is ranked fourth

Tuition fee: $61,520 per year (full-time) 

Number of full time students: 1,181 

In fourth place is the Booth School of Business.

Started in 1898, it has campuses in London, Hong Kong and Singapore and offers full-time MBA, executive MBA, part time MBA and non degree executive education.

Nearly 48,000 students have graduated from this school.

3. Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia

The Wharton School of Business, University of Penn is number 3

Tuition fee: $62,424 per year (full-time) 

Number of full time students: 1,711  

The oldest business school in the country, Wharton, established in 1881 is ranked third.

It has 10 academic departments and over 90,000 alumni from 153 countries, perhaps the largest for any management school.

2. Harvard Business School, Harvard University

The Harvard Business School is ranked number 2

Tuition fee: $58,875 per year (full-time) 

Number of full time students: 1,867  

Established in 1908, the Harvard Business School comes in at Number 2.

offers a two-year full time MBA programme, executive education programme, doctoral programme, online HBX progamme and summer programme for undergraduates.

Nearly 76,000 alumni from 167 countries have been part of this school.

1. Stanford Graduate School of Business, Stanford University

The Standford Graduate School of Business tops the list of business schools in the US

Tuition fee: $61,875 per year (full-time)

Number of full time students: 825 

The Stanford Graduate School of Business started in 1925, leads the rankings of business schools in the US, as per US News and World Report.

It offers full time MBA, a 12 month MSx programme in management for executives and doctoral programmes among others.

Nearly 27,000 students have graduated from this school.
