Feeling lousy? Here's how changing your body language can help.

Christie Brinkley

Is the start of the week triggering overwhelming feelings of laziness, stress or anxiety?

Are you feeling sluggish?

It's may sound difficult to believe, but just changing your body language can really help uplift your mood.

Read on to find out how to do it...

What is body language?

In order to understand the concept of using body language to make any situation better, you need to know what body language is in the first place.

It comprises non-verbal signals in communication, which include facial expressions, body movements, eye movement and gestures.

According to psychological experts, body language is said to constitute the major part of your communication, as compared to the spoken word itself.

So, now that you know what body language is, it's time to put it in context.

When you feel lousy, sad or bogged down, you generally happen to display body language that concurs with these emotions you are going through.

For example, your shoulders tend to drop, lips start to tremble and you put up a flight response.

How do you use it to your advantage?

Firstly, you need to know the body language signs that are associated with happiness and a generally relaxed state of mind like smiling, an open posture and relaxed muscles.

The important point here is to be consciously aware of the signs that you are displaying, so that it is easier to modify and act on them.

If you are unaware of your own body language, it gets difficult to work on them and improve.

Improving the overall awareness about your body is the first step.

Once you become aware of the signs, all you need to do is change them.

If you notice your shoulders sagging, then allow them to relax, even if it is forceful.

Force a smile on your lips and imagine a happy scenario where you are relaxed.

If you persist with it for some time, your mood should eventually improve.
