Was Kendall Jenner the right choice for an Indian magazine's 10th anniversary cover?
When American supermodel Kendall Jenner graced Vogue India's 10th anniversary cover, she stirred a social media storm.
Kendall -- for those who don't know who she is -- is a Victoria's Secret model and an Instagram star with over 75 million followers.
Kim Kardashian is her half-sister; Kendall also featured in the American reality series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
She has done 85 runway shows, 14 Vogue covers and runs a fashion line with her sister Kylie Jenner.
Kendall recently featured in the controversial Pepsi ad which staged a fake protest and ended with her handing a can of Pepsi to a policeman. The ad was nixed after social media outrage.
Earlier this week, she startled the fashion world by her outfit at the Met Gala in New York.
On the Vogue India cover, Kendall is dressed in a black lacy number. The photograph was shot in Jaipur by Peruvian photographer Mario Testino.
You'd have expected folks to swoon over the cover, but quite the contrary.
'Why is Kendall on the cover?' asked Ale C Sieck, an Instagram follower.
'Why did @VogueIndia use Kendall to celebrate the 10th anniversary issue? They should have used an Indian beauty!' asked another.
'I hope they're joking. 10 years and this is what we get? Why aren't we celebrating Indian culture and heritage with actual Indian people?' asked lilmisszoe_.
'Very disappointing. Pick people from your OWN COUNTRY rather than picking some famous white person. You should be promoting Indian/Pakistani women, instead you're promoting a Kardashian? Shame on you! Expected better than this garbage. Sure Kendall's nice and all but India deserves better,' declared Narmeeenxo.
'One of the most important covers in the history of 'chic India' has been white washed,' Maryannshiju felt, adding, 'It only seems to be appropriate to celebrate diversity instead of abolishing it!'
'As an Indian woman myself,'Farahali said, 'I'm disappointed they didn't pick one of their own to represent the beauty and culture of India. Just because she's a supermodel she was chosen? I'm sorry, I just don't see the correlation...'
