The big battle against the coronavirus is being fought by the medical community and the government officials.

But there are many other, smaller battles that need warriors too.

Which is something IIT-Mumbai’s IDC School of Design has recognised.

It has launched the D'source Corona Design Challenge to help find much-needed solutions to mitigate and contain the effects of the virus.

The challenge offers nine design problem areas and entries can be submitted in more than one area.

These include:

  1. Creating awareness campaign about coronavirus or COVID-19
  2. Typographic poster on coronavirus or COVID-19
  3. Visual informational identity programme for coronavirus or COVID-19
  4. Card or board game on coronavirus or COVID-19
  5. Story book on coronavirus for children
  6. Character design of coronavirus or COVID-19
  7. Design of modular portable isolation facility for coronavirus or COVID-19
  8. Information/Visualisation mapping of coronavirus or COVID-19
  9. Design of a COVID-19 system to manage crowds in public spaces

You also have the option of choosing your own design problem area outside of the nine listed above.

The contest is open to students, recent graduates and young designers from across the world, who are welcome to work as individuals or work as collaborative groups.

The solutions need to be creative, innovative, out-of-the-box, resourceful and appropriate solutions.

They must be submitted as a set of posters, a book or a video. Contestants can include a write-up of 300 words explaining the final solution as well as the design process followed.

The chosen entries will be generously felicitated with accolades.

Following the protocols of Creative Commons, they will be made available on an open design platform for free downloads as part of IDC’s open design initiative, free to download.

The cut-off date for the submission is May 15, 2020.

The results will be announced on May 31, 2020.
