India is no stranger to success at international beauty pageants.
Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai, Diana Hayden, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and others have tasted victory at various Miss World and Miss Universe competitions over the past two decades.
And India showers her beauty champions with adulation, keeping them in the public eye for years and assuring them starring roles in Bollywood blockbusters. In short, India is a global giant when it comes to beauty.
In fact, only one country stands toe-to-toe with India in producing and adoring beauty pageant winners: Venezuela.
They are the two unquestioned leaders. And to be honest, Venezuela has India beat.
The numbers don't lie. For India, two Miss Universes and five Miss Worlds. For Venezuela, six Miss Universes, five Miss Worlds, and a Miss Earth.
The last two years have been especially kind to Venezuela, as Dayana Mendoza won Miss Universe 2008, only to hand off her crown earlier this week to compatriot Stefan a Fern ndez, who won Miss Universe 2009.
But, the question begs, how is Venezuela so dominant?
