Paris, Kylie and other international celebs sport Indian designerwear

Hermes, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada -- the exclusive list of designer clothing labels that Indian socialites, fashionistas and celebrities lust after is endless. But while they're busy checking out the Parisian runways, there are several world-famous personalities who often look to the Indian runways to meet their fashionable requirements.

Case in point -- last week, socialite Paris Hilton turned up at an event in Dubai wearing a glittering sequinned ensemble created by Pria Kataaria Puri, an outfit she chose over several available from international designers. We take a look at some of the other international celebs who have a thing for Indian designerwear.

Kylie Minogue

The Aussie pop sensation visited India earlier this year to make her Bollywood debut in Blue and collaborate with AR Rahman on the movie soundtrack. Although Blue was a box-office disaster, Kylie looked lovely in the song sequence, wearing a Manish Malhotra original that showed off her curvy, petite frame. Not everyone can carry off a champagne-gold Chantilly lace dress with silver metallic lining and tassels!

Manish has also designed outfits for other big names like Naomi Campbell, Reese Witherspoon and Jean Claude Van Damme.

Nicole Kidman

The stunning Hollywood A-lister commissioned Ritu Beri, arguably India's most famous designer internationally, to create an outfit for the premiere of her movie Moulin Rouge at the Cannes Film Festival in 2001 -- a strapless black evening gown cascading into ruffles. Beri has also dressed the likes of Bill Clinton, Prince Charles and Andie MacDowell.

Glenn McGrath

Aussie cricketer McGrath walked the ramp for designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil in Mumbai three years ago, looking dashing in an ethnic gold jacket.

Stephen Fleming

Joining McGrath on the runway was former New Zealand skipper Fleming, in a velour jacket worn over ethnic pants. Besides their signature stores in Delhi, Shantanu and Nikhil also supply to high-end stores in Dubai, Kuwait, Tokyo, Switzerland, Birmingham, London, Jeddah, New York and Vancouver.

Katy Perry

This quirky popster chose an equally quirky couturier to do business with! When she performed at the MTV Europe Music Awards last year, Perry wore a carousel dress from Manish Arora's Circus Collection. To say the designer was pleased is an understatement, but in his own words, "This (was) not the first time I've worked with a celebrity. I've created garments for Steven Tyler (lead singer of Aerosmith), Anoushka Shankar, Preity Zinta and Katrina Kaif, to name just a few."

Michael Jackson

The late, great King of Pop pleased his Indian fans no end when he attended the first-ever Bollywood Awards in New York back in 1999 wearing a sherwani. The privileged designer was Manish Malhotra.

Jermaine Jackson

On a visit to India last month, MJ's elder brother and part of the legendary Jackson 5, Jermaine Jackson showstopped at a showing by Rajesh Aiya to commemorate the 26/11 victims. The jacket he wore was put up for a worldwide auction online and the proceeds will go to charity.

Elizabeth Hurley

Married to Indian textile heir Arun Nayar, the gorgeous British actress has a thing for saris and even got married in one. She is seen here attending a Breast Cancer Awareness function in Mumbai last year, sporting a beautiful fuschia drape by Rohit Bal. Gudda, as he is fondly known in Indian fashion circles, also counts Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, Pamela Anderson and and Anna Kournikova among his clients.

Serena Williams

Chalk up another victory for Shantanu and Nikhil. Last year they got tennis ace Serena to grace the runway for them in this hot little red mini.

Dame Judi Dench

The veteran actress is a big fan of designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. In 2006, she graced the 78th Annual Academy Awards red carpet in one of their creations and has since remained a loyal client. The twosome have also designed outfits for biggies like Dame Maggie Smith, Darcey Bussell and Sophie Marceau.

Nicolay Davydenko

And finally, we have Russian tennis player Davydenko, seen here in an ensemble by Manoviraj Khosla. He was participating in a fashion show as part of the Chennai Open ATP tennis tournament earlier this year.
