Nari makes his models walk without music

Trust Narendra Kumar to make a statement. In 2006 the designer drove home a point when his models walked the runway at the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai gagged and to no music. The show was called Protest as the designer was rather miffed about his collection being excluded from the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI)-supported fashion weeks that year.

Nari, as he is fondly called, showed his Spring-Summer 2010 collection at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (that is supported by FDCI) to a similar pin-drop silence.

Japanese precision

The garments were marked with sharp tailoring drawing inspiration from the Japanese Origami.

Here to stay

High waistlines and balloon hemlines are favourites this season. A model shows off a similar beige mini dress.

Not 'off' the mark at all

What's summer without some off-shoulder tops? The pair of classy trousers complete the urbane touch.

Buttoned up

The asymmetrical look, as it seems, is also here to stay. Nari manages to incorporate the sharp cuts with a touch of volume in a single dress.

Copper bottom

The colour palette moved from beige to copper with this figure-hugging top being teamed with a pair of shimmering copper-coloured trousers.

Looking within

Called Look Within You, the designs also drew inspiration from the process of introspection. The hues thus got darker with each progressive dress.

Back in black

Sharp shirts ahead

Narendra's love for sharp cuts and dark colours comes to the fore yet again with the Origami-inspired skirt closing the show in solid black.
