Cowgirl couture: Fashion heads to the Wild West

Tasseled accessories, cowboy boots, riding pants -- styles from the Wild West are taking over runways all over the world. Here's how you can get in on the latest trend.

Denim shirts and wide belts

The denim shirt is making a slow but sure comeback. It's cool, it's practical and you can wear it any way you want -- with stiletto heels, sneakers, shorts or skinny pants. What better than such a versatile garment?

Another distinctly Western style is the waist-cinching wide leather belt. Go casual-chic by wearing it over a plaid flannel shirt and leggings.

You'll be at home on the range in a pair of true-blue boot-cut jeans. A flattering fit that fits most body types, these are also back in style if skinnies are not your scene.

Boots

Of course, what better to wear with boot-cut denims than boots. They're rugged but feminine, sexy but outdoorsy. Step out like a fall fashionista in a mid-calf pair -- they go well with shorts, skirts, pants and practically every other lower body garment you can think of.

Rope in fringed and tasseled accessories this fall. Dig how this hot metallic belt sets off an outfit. And a suede or leather carry-all will fit in with practically any everyday outfit.

Jodhpur pants

Jodhpurs are essentially riding pants, but they're also the best thing for those looking to make a bold statement. If you think you can carry them off, sizzle in any pair that catches your fancy.

Cropped jackets

With autumn coming up, make sure you invest in at least one essential cropped jacket -- it could be denim, fabric or even suede, like the one you see here. You'll be sure to have people sit up and take notice.

Waistcoats

If a jacket feels too warm, take the next best thing -- a trendy little denim waistcoat. Team it with a tee or tank and make like a cowgirl!

And finally, we have the ladies' shirt, which is another easygoing mix and match garment. Just a word of advice, though -- the whole point of Western influences is for you to incorporate them with an ensemble. So don't go the whole hog and wear boots, jeans, leather belt, tassels etc together. Then all you'll need is a Stetson hat and lasso to look decked out for a rodeo -- or a costume party!
