Rocky S is always known to do things differently. And when he got Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag to showstop for him at Kolkata Fashion Week II, you know why. The designer in conversation with India Blooms correspondent Sreya Basu after the show:

Why did you want Sehwag to showstop for you?
I am known for making Bollywood stars showstop for me. So this time, I wanted to do something different; and sports is an important part of fashion. So Sehwag rocked the ramp; I really wanted to see him in that grey sherwani!

Taking it to another level

You have mostly designed bridal collections...
Yes. And the reason for sticking to the same line is the KFW theme -- Earth Couture. I wanted to see how the theme goes when applied to a bridal line.

I have experimented with blouses in this collection. In bridalwear there's hardly anything you can do about the sari, it will be traditional. But there's scope for experimenting with blouses. It's blouses, not saris, that make you look sexy -- they take you to another level. I have experimented a lot on this bit in the collection.

Colour couture

You have used quite a lot of colours this time
Yes. From black and ivory -- there's purple, pink, greys, oranges, vermillion. All colours that are youthful, glamourous and sexy.

Style delight

What are the fabrics you have used?
I have used fabrics like brocades, silks, linen and hand-woven materials from Benares. They are very comfortable and wearable. The entire collection is light and stylish.

Around the world

Having shown your collection in almost all the fashion weeks, is there a particular fashion event you would like to participate in?
I have done Milan and London Fashion Weeks; now I want to participate in the New York Fashion Week.

To market

Do you think with the recession still hovering, there should be so many fashion shows in India?
Yes, I think so. Because the number of new fashion designers, who are willing to work, is increasing. And there is a potential market for them.

His style

What kind of clothes do you like to wear?
I am a casual guy. I like wearing jeans and T-shirts. I am also a jacket person.
