Free flowing

Talking about the collection, Kirmani said he kept the show 'free-flowing'.

"I didn't stick to a partcular theme for the show. I tried to keep the collection simple...it's a summer, happy collection. I used 80-90 percent natural fabrics and also used more coloursa this time."

Focus on the ladies

This collection was also a deviation from what one has come to expect of the designer. "I generally do mostly menswear, but this time I focussed more on women," he explains.

An anything-goes attitude

Asked about the 'not-so-conventional' look of the show, like wearing slippers with suits, Kirmani said: "That's the way people generally dress up. I tried to be more realistic. You may feel like going to a party yet not want to lock yourself in absolute formal wear. So slip into a pair of chappals and enjoy."

Accessories and more

Kirmani said he is planning to tie up with shopping plazas to retail his label.

"Everyone needs to grow. I am also trying to launch a home furnishing line, as well as accessories...everything is planned; just waiting for the right time," Kirmani said.

Working towards the wearable

To be sure, Kirmani's collection was refreshingly wearable, without the airs that usually accompany the 'creative' tag.

And when sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan took to the runway with his sons in the showstopper, it was to the applause of a very surprised and appreciative audience.
