Vibrant Viia: Elegant summerwear from Vivek K

Designer Vivek Karunakaran's collection, showcased on the first day of Lakme Fashion Week, is inspired by the days gone by when nawabs played polo dressed to the nines on sultry Indian afternoons. As a result, his garments are classy, luxurious and a throwback to those days when royal fashion was all about luxury and elegance. Here's a glimpse of the spring/summer offering from Karunakaran's label Viia.

The show kicked off with ensembles bringing together structured upper garments and contoured lower silhouettes like you see here -- harem cut-offs and a sharp jacket.

The long and the short of it

A quirky take on formality, this -- pin-striped shorts teamed with a seersucker jacket.

Textured togs

Shifty, flowing and textured, this pale summer dress would be ideal for a daytime outing or at night, if accessorised well. Those Mary Jane shoes are pretty cute too.

Casual cool

You can't get cooler than this uber-funky tunic, teamed with a statement beaded necklace and ankle-wrapping sandals. As chic as it gets.
