26-year-old Delhi-native Rahul Anand, kickstarted the GenNext show on Day Two of the Lakme Fashion Week. The recent NIFD grad didn't disappoint.

Rediff.com caught up with the zany upstart, and he shared his thoughts on his debut Lakme Fashion Week performance.

How do you feel after your debut?

I'm really, really excited. Obviously, it was my first time at Lakme Fashion Week, so it wasn't easy. There were a lot of problems to deal with and hurdles to jump in the run-up to the show, but it's really great. The experience was awesome. And next time I'll know exactly what to expect!

What inspired your collection?

My inspiration was aerodynamics, the science behind construction of airplanes. Also, the aerodynamic qualities found in nature: the human body, the shape of a bird, etc. Additionally, I tried to use colours that reflect this. I was a science student when I was in college, so science usually influences my work. Even my next collection will have components from science and nature.

What's your personal style?

Very clean, with a little bit of accessories. I try to keep it a little funky too. I love all colours, especially the loud ones!

How did you find the collections of the other Gen Next designers?

Very good. They were all impressive. I really liked Mehak Jain's work.

Which Indian designers inspire you?

Manish Arora, without question, is my idol. He's so good at capturing fantasy and introducing drama in his shows.

What are your plans?

To come out with a complete lifestyle range, a brand. A lot of designers here have labels, but you don't really see a full brand in India.

Any advice to aspiring designers?

Don't be bound by the 'principles and rules' that people try to put on you. You have to break these bonds. You have to be a little crazy.
