Off ramp fashion: Funky jumpsuits

Last updated on: September 19, 2009

Move over designer stuff here's what's making the waves at the Lakme Fashion Week!

If Mumbai's street fashion is anything to go by, jumpsuits are totally in. The 98-year-old garment (yup it is that old) is the thing that many women are opting for these days. And why not? It's comfortable, it's sporty, it's funky and guess what it's even affordable! Why Deepika Padukone's sported one in the opening credits of Love Aaj Kal too.

This one, for instance, cost Namrata Tiwari (in picture) a measly Rs 100. Namrata is a student at the National Institute of Design (NID) and she managed find hers at Knit Factory in Vadodra. "I believe these pieces are discarded seconds from the West," she told rediff.com adding that she'd dyed the cloth from blue to red -- her favourite colour.

The green belt however is borrowed property. "It belongs to a friend from New Delhi and must've cost her approximately Rs 150." she added saying that she thought the contrasting colours would look rather spunky.

The shoes are plain white canvas shoes from Bata which Namrata painted 'just last night'. "I used turmeric to paint the lace because I didn't get the yellow I was looking for."

Bata sneakers: Rs 150
