We invited readers to send in pictures of their favourite but unusual summer getaways -- pristine places that are not on a regular tourist map. Here are some of the early birds who shared with us their memories.
Neelabja Dutta sends in this breathtaking view of the Himalayan range from Hatu peak. Dutta writes, "(We were at) Narkanda, a small village in Himachal Pradesh, just 60 kms from Shimla. The place remains undiscovered and secluded, far from the bustle of city life. We spent two days there and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are just about three hotels here!
Do you have a photograph of a place -- it could be a quiet fishing hole, a tranquil lake, a stretch of a beach or any location that is not listed in popular tourist guides?
Give us a peek into your pristine escape and if your photographs strike the right chord, we'll publish them!
Simply send in your snaps (original photos only) to travelpicsga@rediffmail.com (subject line: 'My summer getaway'), along with your name, the name of the place, a short description of the photograph, when you visited and what you liked most about the place. We'll feature the best pics right here on rediff.com and India Abroad.
Balajee Ramamurthy tells us, "This photograph was taken in Havalock Island (Andamans). Beautiful seashore, stunning sunrise and sunset and no sound except that of the waves are characteristics of this beautiful island."
Rahul Shah, who shot this picture of the Himalayas, writes, "It was heaven. I discovered myself at 12,000ft. After five days of upward climb, you trek one full day, where all what you can see is snow. You admire the nature and its power and at the same time discover the endurance of the human body.
