Your photos: India's breathtaking waterscapes

We invited readers to send in their favourite travel pic -- that one photograph that perfectly captures the beauty of a place they visited. In response, readers have sent in wonderful photographs from all across India. Here we feature some of the refreshing photographss readers sent in of India's fascinating waterscapes:

First up is Neeraj Jain's photograph taken at Orcha (near Jhansi, MP).

"I visited Orcha last month around March and was stunned to see the golden colour at sunset. Jhansi is famous for its old forts and the beautiful sunset along the Betwa river'," he shares. "The serenity of the environment only added to the beauty of the setting sun and it's reflection in the river, which is also known as the 'Ganga of MP'."

Cauvery, Karnataka

From MP we move to Karnataka. Kuldeep sends in this photo of the Kaveri falls at Sivasamudra, 160 kms far from Bangalore.

Gobind Sagar lake, Himachal Pradesh

Vaishali Kashyap sends in this pic from her vacation to HP in 2009.

"This picture was taken on a trip around Gobind Sagar lake. It is one of the largest man-made lakes in India, which was formed as a reservoir by the construction of Bhakra Dam on River Satluj," she informs.

"I loved the blue waters of the lake, which were pleasantly cold even on a 40C hot day and so clean that you could drink it."

Powai lake, Mumbai

Kunal A Deshkar ssends in the next pic of Powai lake.

"We had a 'birdrace' event which was organised by HSBC, where we had to spot the maximum number of birds in a day. So we choose to visit IIT Powai lake where we spotted almost 30 different species of birds along with a variety of ducks," he shares.

Waterfall in the Kollimalai Hills, TN

This breath-taking waterfall along the Kollimalai Hills, near Namakkal, caught Dr Senthil Sailesh's imagination.

"The road to the hill has the maximim number of hairpin bends in India, and the trek to the waterfall is a pleasant experience," he says.

Lakkavaram lake, Andhra Pradesh

This snap was taken on the Lakkavaram Lake which is around 75km from Warangal on the road to the famous Ramappa Temple," shares Madhav who sends in this pic. 

"This lake was built by the Kakatiya rulers along with the Ramappa lake and Parkhal lake more than 600 years ago. Standing on the bridge, you will feel you are in the middle of an ocean."

Bay of Bengal, Andhra Pradesh

Krishna Mohan Mahavadi sends in the next pic taken on the banks of the Bay of Bengal at Antarvedi, East Godavari dist of Andhra Pradesh on a December morning.

Venna lake, Maharashtra

Venna lake is one of the major tourist attractions of Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra," says Suhas Phaartale who sent in this pic. 

"The lake is surrounded by trees on all sides and tourists can enjoy a boatride over the lake or a horseride along side the lake."

Jog Falls, Karnataka

One of the highest waterfalls in India, these falls attract tourists from all over the world especially during the monsoon, when excess water is released from the nearby Linganamakki Dam," says Srinivasa C P who shares this photo.

Barapani, Meghalaya

This photo was taken during my visit to Shillong, Meghalaya," says Amit S Chakravarty. 

The area is called Barapani, and is on the way from Guwahati to Shillong. It is a tourist spot with lake and resorts.

Adilabad, Andhra Pradesh

Next up is Rizwan's photograph taken of a waterfall in the forests of Adilabad.

"This is a wonderful place to enjoy natural serene beauty, totally cut off from the world," he says.

River Krishna, Andhra Pradesh

Here Madhav shares this photo of the Krishna taken in Anupu, famous for Buddhist monastery where Acharya Nagarjuna preached.

"This was taken near Nagarjuna Sagar, 130 km from Hyderabad. Here the only sounds you hear are of the water of the river striking the rocks."

Purva Falls, Madhya Pradesh

Rathijeet K Bala sends in the next pic of the Purva falls, 40 kms from Rewa.

River Dipholu, Assam

Kaustuv Lahiri visited the Kaziranga National Park in earlier this month and sends this photo of the River Dipholu meandering its way through the wilderness.

River Kabini, Karnataka

And last is this pic of "one of the most beautiful spots of South Karnataka" sent in by Vivek.

The picture was shot during a winter sunset along the backwaters of River Kabini. The area is a part of Rajiv Gandhi National Park and lies in the Nagarhole forest ranges of Karnataka.

"This 'elephant territory' was known for 'Khedda' operations used to trap elephants en masse. While we could spot herds of elephants and other wildlife, the tiger was elusive and has been (even for locals) since a long time. Nevertheless it is a beautiful ecosystem to experience," he shares.
