Reader pics: India's wealth of natural wonders
We invited readers to send in their favourite travel pic -- that one photograph that perfectly captures the beauty of a place they visited. In response, readers have sent in wonderful photographs from all across India. Here we feature some of the photographs readers sent in:
First up is reader Guruprasad Hebbar's photograph of the river Shimsha, a tributary of the Cauvery, in the Mandya district of Karnataka.
"This was taken in September 2009, when we went for a road trip in the rainy season," he says.

Nainital, Uttarakhand
It was our honeymoon destination," says Lokanuraag of Nainital, which he visited in March 2009.
"Summer was setting in Delhi and Nainital was cool even in mid-March. It is an ideal place for a couple who would like to spend some quality time together. There are lots of lakes, hills and scintillating Mother Nature. All in all, a total paradise on earth."
Veeravasaram, Andhra Pradesh
Srinivas Ravilisetty sends in this snap taken from the train when approaching the village of Veeravasaram village.
Ratnagiri, Maharashtra
A land of mountains, rivers, mango orchards and cashew trees best describes the Konkan, every inch of which turns green after the arrival of the first monsoon breezes," says Rakesh Tripathi.
"It is the very picture we try to paint from imagination in school."
Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu
I took this photo in Kodaikanal, when I went there in early April to get away from the heat in Madurai," shares James Clement.
"The temperature was much lower and the food was great, although slightly expensive."
Auli, Uttarakhand
Kamshet, Maharashtra
Sangeeta Sharma visited Kamshet with the primary objective of paragliding.
"Although we were not able to fulfil our objective, as the Wind Gods did not oblige us with currents strong enough for us to take off, the beauty of the location was enough to have made our trip a satisfying one. The lake here, like most in Maharashtra, is formed by a dam. The tranquility of the lake and the sereneness that prevailed made our stay worthwhile and we could not have thought of a better summer destination!"
Dandeli, Karnataka
We had a great stay in Dandeli," share Naresh Padiyar, who sends in this pic.
"Close to nature, lots of birds, river rafting -- a cool place away from the busy noise of the city."
Kolleru, Andhra Pradesh
I visited Kolleru lake in 2009," shares Ravi.
"Although half of it was dry when we visited (mid-summer), the number of birds that visit this place is amazing. It's baffling how so many fish, birds and humans survive on this little leftover water right through the summer."
