Celebrity feuds: Will they ever make friends?

Last updated on: August 5, 2010 19:58 IST

Uddhav-Raj, Shah Rukh-Salman and Anil-Mukesh are just some of the names you always thought to be inseparable before they went their own ways. We bring you a list of friendships -- from the field of politics, showbiz, sports and business -- we hope to see restored sooner rather than later.

Some friendships always seemed indestructible until the scythe of time, money or power caused a rift. Here are some relationships we hope -- given that Friendship Day just went by -- will return to normal sooner, rather than later.

Anil Ambani and Mukesh Ambani

Years ago Shashi Kapoor famously declared: "Mere paas maa hai..." It was a sentiment that both the Ambani brothers probably empathise with the most. After all their has a very important role in keeping the scales between the two balanced.

The two brothers who haven't been seeing eye-to-eye have reconciled... even if it is on paper.

Between the two of them, the Ambani brothers can buy 100 per cent of every company listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange and would still be left with $30 billion to spare!

Now, if only they get back...

Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan

Image: If you thought only kids fight at birthday parties, you should've been at Katrina Kaif's do!

The two Khans had the entire Bollywood to themselves. Aamir, the third Khan of the Bollywood Triumvirate, was never really in the league of the other two until very recently.

It all began at Katrina Kaif's birthday bash two years ago when Shah Rukh apparently said something to Salman that touched a raw nerve

Things have never gone back to being normal for the two since then.

Aamir Khan, who was also at the party, managed to stay away from the controversy. Later that year and the year following that, he went on to top the Filmfare's Power list!

Why they should come back together: Because they don't make romantic and action heroes like 'em any more and because two Khans together are always better than one.

Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray

Image: Will their love for Vada Pav bring the two warring cousins back together...

This could have well been a plot out of a Bollywood movie. The two cousins who were considered to be the eyes and ears of the Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray are out to get each other now.

Raj's new Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has managed to eat into Shiv Sena's vote bank and has been one of the primary reasons for Congerss-NCP's victory in some constituencies.

But then again no one's a permanent friend or an enemy in politics so who knows what might bring the two back! Well, one might bet on their love for the Vada Pav and rights of Marathi manoos, if nothing else.

Lalit Modi and Shashi Tharoor

Image: If only the two made up...

Money and power can be a heady cocktail for some to handle. And when you're talking IPL, one of the biggest televised events in the country, sparks are bound to fly.

While Modi and Tharoor weren't exactly langotiya yaars (bosom pals), the two got along well when it came to the IPL. This was until the Kochi team fiasco happened, all on the social networking site -- Twitter.

Sad, because Modi with all the power and money and Tharoor with his gift of the gab could've well changed the face of the game together.

The Bachchans and The Gandhis

Image: The one song Amitabh and Sonia will possibly never sing -- 'Yeh Dosti'

Maybe it was Bofors; maybe it was something else that caused the rift. But a fresh bonding between the first family of politics and the first family of Bollywood surely makes for a good photo-op if nothing else, won't it?

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi

Image: Neither has been able to come out of the other's shadow

We may never really know what caused the 'incompatibility' between Indian tennis greats Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi. The twosome, who won numerous tournaments together, no longer see face to face.

In fact the two always itch for an on-court face off and actually, we hear, correct you, if you make a mistake on the number of times one has beaten the other.

While they continue to come together for the Davis Cup their performance as a team has been abysmally low. Ironically neither has come out of the other player's shadow and no matter how many partners they change the success rate hasn't matched the time when Lee-Hesh were a team.

Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh

Image: The two Singhs reportedly fell out over Jaya Prada's constituency ticket

Yet another classic case of a woman coming in between two men?

Apparently a lot of the fallout between the two Singhs had to do with actress turned MP Jaya Prada getting a ticket to contest elections for Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur constituency.

Today the ousted MP runs Lok Manch, an apolitical organisation represented by a tricolour flag with his photo in the middle! So if you weren't tired of seeing Amar Singh in the papers with the Bachchans, you could see him on his flag! Good enough reason for him to go back to SP? We might think so.

Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar

Image: Crying over spilt milk -- Vinod Kambli

The two batting greats were once the envy of every cricket team in the world. Vinod Kambli, a left-handed batsman and Sachin Tendulkar, right-handed, blazed their way all through school (where they held the record for the maximum number of runs in a single match) and many international cricket matches.

Somewhere along the way, Kambli got left behind even as Sachin went on to earn a demigod status.

Years later, the left-handed batsman remarked that he felt betrayed by Sachin on a national television show. Needless to say he later went on to apologise to the Master Blaster, who unsurprisingly never really came out to face the media over the issue.

Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta

Image: The ten stories that Sanjay Dutt and Manyata won't be reading out to their kids

You thought nothing could come in between these two. And then Manyata happened. Apparently the fallout between the two Sanjays had something to do with money and with the actor's wife, who it seems has taken up a large part in his life.

Dutt openly alleged that Gupta used his name a little 'too much' and things got so bad that Dutt even gave the premiere of his film with Gupta -- Dus Kahaniyaan -- a pass.

Whatever happened to the pals before gals rule?

India and Pakistan

Image: Maybe it's time to stop shedding crocodile tears and taking serious steps towards reconciliation

Split since 1947, the two countries could well do with a little dose of friendship sans acidic barbs and silly accusations. Need anything more be said?
