A look at the top 25 universities in the United States according to the US News rankings.

US News has declared its ranking of the best colleges and universities for 2011 rated on best quality and best value.

The 2011 edition rated over 1,800 national universities, national liberal arts colleges, regional universities and regional colleges on 16 areas related to academic excellence which included peer assessment, retention and graduation of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and graduation rate performance.

Harvard University

Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and established in 1636, Harvard takes top spot in the rankings.

The university has over 2,100 faculty members and a student intake of about 21,000 each year for its degree programmes.
