Torrents in the distance

Next we have this awe-inspiring snap from Joel, who says, "This a a pic clicked by my friend on his trekking trip to Sinhagad Fort near Pune. The view we see here is of Pune City."

Blooms among the thorns

Anirban Bakshi of Kolkata sent in this one, saying "Prickly Pear Cacti bear flowers during the monsoons. This snap was taken by me on the road to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh."

Life through a soaked lens

"I took this from the London Eye this June," says Nidhi Taparia. "Loved how it turned out! The House of Commons is in the background."

The lone traveller

And finally, Surendran Babu of Coimbatore sent in this one, saying, "This photograph was taken at the Malampuzha Dam in Kerala. Thick clouds were about to engulf the region and I got this perfect shot of a bird who seem to be 'lost in space' -- it reminded me instantly of this poem written by Rabindranath Tagore:

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action --
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
