Konkona, Sharmila add sparkle to Jewellery Week

Here's what was on offer on Day 4 of the India International Jewellery Week, underway in Mumbai from August 15-19.

Day 4 of the IIJW turned out to be quite a star-studded affair both on and off the ramp. While some of the on-ramp stars were Konkona Sen Sharma, Sagarika Ghatge and Sharmila Tagore, spotted in the audience were Alka Yagnik, Susanne Khan and Kiron Kher to name a few.

So let's take a look at what all the buzz was about...

Kicking things off was the collection by Kriplani & Sons. Presenting a line that had contemporary and traditional designs, it began with a gorgeous pear shaped emerald necklace circled with diamonds and pearl drops on the edges.

Polkis, rubies and a sprinkling of pearls, giant bracelets and flower rings with emerald centres, giant pearls with centre ruby surrounded by uncut diamonds in a gold base necklace were some of the eye-catching pieces.

The more modern creations there were faceted diamonds and rubies delicately woven to form opulent designs.

The slinky pre-stitched saris by Kanwaljit Singh with his team from Istituti Callegari set off the jewellery perfectly.

Vaishali Desai, model and actress (Kal Kisne Dekha) was the showstopper in a splendid ruby choker with flowing rivers of diamonds and pear-shaped rubies, teamed with matching earrings, bracelet and rings.

Next up was Laksh Pahuja with hiw show titled 'Floral Fragrant Adornment'.

Opening with a line of earrings in gold and diamonds with shapes varying from floral, fan, spear to spider, Pahuja built up the momentum with a few sets in intricate moulded shimmering gold collars, and then unleashed his "talk of the town" collection pieces which left the audience spellbound.

A bare-chested male model in black pyjamas with an arresting necklace of gold medallions with the nine painted faces of Raavan was made quite a statement.

The giant pink dolphin brooch leaping in the water perched on the shoulder of model Alecia Raut, made quite a statement!

Next in line was the collection by Surana Gems. Glittering necklaces, earrings and rings all created in varying diamond shapes and finished with skilled craftsmanship were exquisite.

Aimed at the bridal wear market, the show featured an array of glittering diamond raani haars with chandelier earrings.
Dome-shaped rings, a bracelet/ring combo, a heart-shaped choker resplendent with diamonds, and a giant ruby pendant and an elegant nose ring were some of the offerings.

Showstopper Nikita Nigam popular playback singer from the south and sister of the voice of Bollywood, Sonu Nigam; confidently took a walk down the ramp in a choker with ruby drops and giant pendant, fabulous earrings, ring and bracelet.

The startling creations of black and white salwars with sheer swirling tunics by designer Kanwaljit Singh assisted by the team from Istituti Callegari, were perfect for the exquisite ornaments.

When it comes to bridal and wedding jewellery one of the names at the top of the list belongs to Manubhai Zaveri, who presented the fourth showing of the day.

The collection featured the brand's premium Royal Jadtar jewellery using polki and enamel work with antique and kundan work.

Models dressed in the rustic creations by Priyanka Karunakaran had earthy tones for the ghagras, cholis and dupattas which made the traditional beauty of the jewellery come alive.

Kundan and pearls were highlighted by rubies and emeralds while gold kada bangles, flat broad gold kundan necklaces and delicate multichain waist belts captured the beauty of Gujarat's traditions.

Sagarika Ghatge was an elegant showstopper, wearing double long bejeweled antique haars, jhumka earrings, bangles and rings.

Sawansukha Jewellers followed with their Durgotsav collection aimed at the Durga Puja festivities.

A mix of jadau, gold, antique and diamond ornaments that the creations were simply magnificent. 'Karigari', the all in one diamond necklace-cum-pendant with precious gems was just one of the many stunning pieces on display.

Seen here is the 'A Blend' and the 'Taj E Gulistan' set comprising a paisley haath phool and necklace that draws inspiration from ancient Mughal splendour.

the showstopper diamond necklace, earrings and bracelet.

Blending craft and tradition with plenty of modern chic, the Amrapali collection had a mystical flavour.

Presenting a stunning bridal collection of traditional jewellery, the show transported the audience to the Ajanta and Ellora era.

Opening the show was the talented and sprightly Konkana Sen Sharma. A five-row kundan raani haar, armlet, bangles, earrings and a gorgeous choker set the mood of the evening for brilliant jewellery that appeared on the catwalk.

White gold, pearls, diamonds, meenakari work and kundan were transformed into raani haars, kadas, cuffs, maang tikkas, rings, haath phools, chokers and pendants. Oversized kundan collars extended over the shoulders, while the antique gold finish gave the ornaments a traditional timeless look.

Carved gold cummerbunds, waist belts, an inverted ruby necklace that snaked down the bodice and giant carved emeralds as centres for earrings and necklaces were some of the other highlights on show.

The black sheer saris with tonal shimmering sequins by designer Kanwaljit Singh and the team from Istituti Callegari allowed the jewellery to take centre stage.

Known for using interesting techniques like enameling, filigree work, granulation, repousse and kundan Tanishq's show was quite stunning. From their Zoya collection, Tanishq unveiled a line that revolved around luxury, timeless beauty and great craftsmanship.

Divided into three parts -- Espana, Paris and Rajasthan -- the line featured the grandeur of each place in the designs.

The Espana line had diamonds in shades of white, champagne and colours provided by rubies and sapphires. Emerald pendants circled with diamonds on a matching chain, floral bracelets, rows of pear shaped rubies twinkled with diamonds, and delicate lacey diamond neck wear and gypsy earrings were some of the creations.

The Paris segment had diamonds, emerald and pearls being the centre of attraction set in star-shaped pendants with emerald centre, chandelier earrings, star-bursts.

Shades of beige were used by designer Sonia Vajifdar when creating the corset gowns with layered skirts.

To set the mood for the Rajasthan inspired line, kundan polki, enamel and pearls were used.

From stylish pieces that can be teamed with ethnic or western apparel, to heavy formal jewellery for festive and bridal occasions, the collections were a kaleidoscope of elegance and beauty.

Last to show on Day 4 was Bina Goenka, who presented some intricately crafted styles and unusual concepts. Titled 'Tribute to Gaia', the first Greek goddess, the show was all about Grecian glamour.

Inspired by the symphony of nature the necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets were moulded and crafted with rubies,
emeralds, tanzanites and sapphires to create trees, branches, flowers, leaves, animals, birds etc into beautiful jewellery.

Clad in black outfits to resemble the dark deep coal mines, the jewellery glittered as diamond and emerald collars with chains of beads, large pendants, draped lacey diamond neckpieces, curls of gold clusters for the neck, shining spheres on gleaming chokers and diamond chains speckled with flowers dazzled the audience.

Small dainty clutches were teamed with rows of pearls for the neck and Greek goddess like chokers with emerald danglers.

The showstopper was a masterpiece titled Gaia, a diamond necklace that travelled from the neck to the navel and spread over the shoulders.
