PIX: Ayesha, Sonakshi shine on the ramp

Last updated on: August 20, 2010 19:01 IST

We bring you the grand closing of India International Jewellery Week in Mumbai on August 19 -- the 'Best of the Best' showing.

The IIJW drew to a grand close yesterday, with one final showing that displayed the best work of all participating designers.

Models paraded in mind-blowing jewellery and creativity was at an alltime high with all the bling on the runway presented as innovatively as possible.

Bollywood starlets Ayesha Takia and Sonakshi Sinha also took turns on the ramp, modelling the same eye-searing diamond necklace as the flashbulbs went into overdrive. Take a look.

We start off with Tapur Chatterjee, whose rich look consists of so many gleaming accessories you don't know where to start. But the focal point is definitely that thunderous neckpiece and the miscellaneous bangles adorning her wrists. The danglers, rings and hairpin are suitably understated in comparison.

You have to appreciate the craftsmanship of this flower pendant, with its shaded green and gold hues.

Dolphin display

This heavy piece looks more like it belongs behind glass than someone's neck, what with gold and diamond dolphins riding encrusted, swirling waves!

Geometric inlay

Alesia Raut takes her turn sporting this sharply angular necklace with inlaid stones and matching earrings.

Shelling it out

Glowing serenely, Pia Trivedi wears a set of filigreed red and bronzed shells in precious metal.

Solitaire extraordinaire

This simple design puts a number of large, exquisite solitaires on display, each probably worth a ransom!

Pretty in pink

Ayesha Takia steps out of the wings, showing off the crowning glory of the show -- a diamond and ruby set so heavy, it looks like it could weigh you down!

Delicately netted

Criss-crossing all over the place, this necklace shows off a netted design.

Swirls that end with pearls

Last updated on: August 20, 2010 19:01 IST

Gently winding their way around the model's neck, strings of diamonds show off a swirling pattern that ends in pearl drops.

Royal veil

Gold, pearls and precious stones create a towering crown and beaded veil that falls all the way to the knees.

Opulent offering

You don't need a collar if you own what Carol Gracias is wearing! Polki diamonds fall all the way to her shoulders in an unimaginably thick necklace.

Stylish spray

We loved this sprig of diamonds, spraying out across one side, with a single, delicate flower placed on one side.

Gorgeous geometry

Jesse Randhawa shows off a geometric design with matching cuff -- again, don't miss the solitaires dotting the intersections of each diamond line.

Second time around

And we see the winning piece once more, this time transferred from Ayesha to Sonakshi Sinha -- wonder which of them held up better under that massive weight?
