Love story: 'In no time I said yes'

Last updated on: December 17, 2010 18:27 IST

We invited readers to share stories of how they met their spouses and interesting anecdotes about their wedding day. Here'sKulbir Bhogal's account of how he first met the girl who would be his wife.

The day I left for Ludhiana, I was very much positive to find the lady love. I reached Ludhiana with very easy mood. I was told at home that the girl is quite good and you should not say anything odd.

Morning was quite good and we started to reach Jalandhar. On the way I was again reminded that the girl is OK and you have to say yes.

We reached Jalandhar at around 10.30 am. I was wandering the city and noting the lanes and by lanes to the important house.

We knocked the door, immediately there was response, we moved inside the house.

I was keen to have a glance of her. Any how there was chatting on climate, newspaper headings etc.

I was feeling eager to see the girl as time was passing very fast. Soon there was a girl with tray in her hands. I was delighted to see the choice of my parents, really remarkable and I should bow before the beauty. The hands were trembling with fear.

I was watching the activities moment by moment. The shyness of innocence was seen on the face. I was impressed with the beauty and thanked God of this creation for me. Time passed very fast and she was away to other room.

Every body asked about the nod, really this was important moment of my life. In no time I said yes.

The sweets were bought from the market, every body was feeding me sweets with congratulations.

I asked to have one to one meeting to her mother, it was agreed.

I asked her hobbies, her interest, her day today activities. I asked her if you want any information about me, said no. The time was passing very quickly .she wanted to finish the meeting as soon as possible, also she was feeling uneasy.

There were photographs of both families and I was feeling the heat as she was standing close to me. She eloped at once and I was wandering here and there for her. Again there was tea session and there were preparations of wind up.

With heavy heart I have to leave the house. With dreams of meeting her again I was walking with my parents unnoticed by the people what happened to me today.

In the evening I was feeling a special essence in the air, my mood was delighted. I wanted to talk to her but social obligations were coming my way.

I wanted to see her again but parents won't allow for our meeting, as society will disapprove the meeting.

I boarded the train to Mumbai. After reaching, wrote the best I felt about her. I felt exhausted after writing to her.

The story of our two minds and one soul started their journey.

We have been married for the last 27 years. Now we are grandparents.
