In the latest on the reforms planned for the Indian education system, Human Resource and Development minister Kapil Sibal announced that efforts are being made to conduct a single-level entrance test by 2013 for students to get admitted to science and commerce courses.
Sibal also touched upon his meet with 20 chairmen of school educational boards from various states to discuss the core curriculum regarding the issue.
Sibal has been in touch with state boards for the last five months to devise a common course in schools.
This move follows the series of reforms already rolled out by the minister -- scrapping of the Class X board exams (CBSE) and the introduction of a grading system at the board level -- in an effort to reduce the increasing stress and competition students face at the secondary and higher secondary level.
