India's beauty -- through the lens

Last updated on: February 18, 2010 15:22 IST

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. And when the picture is a breathtaking view of one of India's many panoramas it has the power to transport you to the location and give you a taste of its essence, its charm.

To celebrate India's natural beauty and the spirit of the traveller, Photolog 2010, an outdoor travel photography exhibition, has been organised in Mumbai and will showcase some images from around the country. Here's a look at some of the images that will be on display.

Freelance journalist and photographer Meera Joshi captures the beauty of the Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand.

"The beauty of the valley is that about every two months the colours change completely. I was there in June when the flowers were yellow and white," she says.

Located in Uttarakhand, the valley is about 3 km from Ghangria (which is about 14 km from Govindghat). "We were looking forward to visiting the Valley of Flowers, and thankfully the weather permitted. I just stood in the centre of the valley and began clicking," she says of the photo.

As for her favourite destination? "The Panchachuli and Dharma treks are possibly the most beautiful," she says.

About the exhibition: Date: February 18-21, 2010; Venue: PL Deshpande Hall, Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai; Time: 10 am to 8 pm

Journey across Sela Pass, Arunachal Pradesh

Last updated on: February 18, 2010 15:22 IST

The pass is open most of the year," says Milind Bhide, who visited Arunachal in February, 2009. "But there had been fresh snowfall when we visited and it had been closed. Once the army had cleared the roads, the view was just perfect -- the winding road, bordered by clean white banks and rocks delicately topped with snow."

Arunachal Pradesh is still untouched by tourism, specially the eastern areas. "There are areas that are totally isolated, it's just forests and lush countryside, and you might pass another vehicle maybe once the entire day," he says.

The pristine natural beauty of the place, the little bamboo villages and the natural forests make the state a must-visit, says Milind.
