Braving it out

This next one is from Sabyasachi Talukdar and shows exotic birds at the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary braving a downpour.

"Ranganathittu is about 18 kilometres from Mysore," he explains. "It is a group of small islands on the Cauvery River."

"The bird sanctuary owes its existence to the world famous ornithologist Dr Salim Ali, who convinced the Maharaja of Mysore in 1940 to declare Ranganthittu a protected area."

"The sanctuary is not very large (it covers an area of 0.67 square kilometres), but is home to a great variety of birds -- cormorants, darters, white ibis, storks, egrets, herons, terns, swallows, kingfishers and sandpipers, to name a few -- and some reptiles, like the marsh crocodile."

A battle of sun and clouds

Prasun Sanyal from New Delhi e-mailed in this pic, explaining, " I took this shot from inside a cab on my way home from the office. The weather was very pleasant and it looked like the rains were very near."

Nature's diamonds

Hitesh Shah of Pune captured this one, where the rain drops clinging precariously to a leaf are shimmering like bright jewels.

A single streak of lightning

And finally, shot from the roof of his home is this striking picture from Pankaj Das, which he says he used his cellphone to capture.
