Manish Malhotra, Bollywood's favourite designer, showcased his collection at the Pearls Delhi Couture Week on day 1. A mix of rich Indian fabrics and textures combined with clean western lines gave the collection an opulent yet wearable appeal. Muted gold, beige paired with vibrant reds and blues dominated the collection that had offered up lehengas, saris, anarkali suits and more. Take a look...

Up first is this gorgeous lehenga in white and silver, beautifully set off by the deep blue and purple velvet border.

Bolero magic

Another mix of Indian and western influences was this number with its heavily embroidered bolero jacket and flowing skirt.

Strike a pose

Model Diandra Soares paints a striking picture in this ocean blue-green shift dress paired with a heavily embellished gold and blue bolero.

Man in black

Malhotra had something for the guys too, though not as luxuriant as the ladies' line. This black jacket heavy on the self-coloured detailing paired with silk jodhpurs gets our thumbs up.

Layered luxe

Taking things up a notch in the opulence department is this seemingly mix-n-match ensemble. A royal blue and gold velvet jacket over the stiff skirt and lace pleated sari are altogether a bit much. What do you think?

Vision in gold

Model Carol Gracias in this gold and red sharara with its plunging neckline is stunning as always.

Sari chic

This maroon net sari with its heavy golden detailing is quite exquisite, with the patterned skirt beneath lending an interesting effect. We're not so sure about the heavy black choli though.

Lady in red

Next up is model Binal Trivedi who strikes a pose in a stunning red and gold ensemble. The deep, deep neckline and heavy embellishment on the border and sleeves are a nice touch.

Take a bow

The designer took in the applause at the end of the show surrounded by his creations.
