Ancient temples are a huge part of our cultural and architectural heritage. Here we present some of the photographs readers sent in of the temples they visited.
"This was taken at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi, Karnataka," says Manish Agarwal.
"As the sun goes down in boulder-strewn Hampi, there is an indescribable calm that is impossible to experience in the hustle and bustle of a big city. Truly a moment that stays with you. No matter how many times you go there, Hampi surprises you every time."

"The photo was taken on my visit in December 2008. It is a great view of Lord Shiva and Parvati atop the hill. One can see the Bay of Bengal right from the top of Kailasagiri."
Shore Temple, Mahabalipuram
Mayil Vahanan sends in this photograph of the Shore Temple at Mahabalipuram.
"This is one of the oldest of the south Indian temples, which were structural temples constructed in the Dravidian style," he informs. "It has been listed among the world heritage sites by UNESCO."
Buddhist Temple, Dehradun
Here Amrinder Singh shares this pic of the Buddhist Temple at Clement Town in Dehradun.
"It is a wonderful place with a true refection of Tibetan culture," he says.
Badami Cave temple, Karnataka
Lakshmanan P sends in this pic of the Badami Cave temple in Karnataka.
"This is a photo of the the water collection (Kalyani) from the Badami Cave temple. I visited this place in November 2008. The serenity and calmness of the place is very attractive. The cave temples add to the beauty of the place."
