He is known for his pastel shades and long gowns. Designer Swapnil Shinde, whose creations line the shelves of India's leading fashion stores and are worn by the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Mughda Godse, Amrita Rao and Soha Ali Khan, is back for the spring/ resort 2010 installment of Lakme Fashion Week.
And this time around, there are fewer gowns to be seen and more of what he calls 'futuristic' designs.
Shinde's latest collection is called 'Let's Play a Game, Again' and he describes it as "Transformers-meets-Alice in Wonderland".
"The collection is very graphic," he says, "There are not too many long gowns, though they have traditionally been my forte. I've always been a video games fan and my last collection was inspired by the Mario Brothers."
So how would Shinde dress Anne Hathaway who plays the Snow Queen in Alice In Wonderland? He'd probably get her into a long flowing gown -- of the few in his latest line.
And in addition to the gowns, here's what you can see in Shinde's collection this season at the LFW -- bandage tops with acrylic handwork, voluminous hexagonal skirts and funky androgynous space age belts, bags and shoes to accessorise.
Metallic drapery jig sawed with patent leather and metal chain embroidery, tweaked with techno acrylic cut-out embroidery, lame lycra sleek low waist pants, metallic transparent leggings -- all of these constitute the designer's vision of future fashion.
"This time, the colours range from white, jasmine, nude, neon red, orange, chartreuse and aquamarine to grey and black," explains Shinde, describing the line overall as 'fiercely feminine and futuristic'.
And here is his message for all fashionistas: "All forward-thinking women, looking to get a head-start for future fashion, be prepared to be on the edge of your seats!"
So stay tuned, because Shinde's LFW showing will be featured right here in the next few days!
