Photographs: Uttam Ghosh
A fashion week is a world in itself, almost always unaffected by the happenings outside of the venue. Photograper Uttam Ghosh takes a tour of the Lakme Fashion Week being held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Mumbai and shares his images with you.
Camera hi!
Technically, this is the smoking area. But it is where the most socialising happens during the course of the day. Backslapping, bantering, model hunting and schmoozing. Through most part of the evening, this is also a great place for photographers to use the natural light and shoot pictures. The young man facing the camera is one such photographer who spends quite a bit of time here. Right now though he has found himself in the unenvious position before the camera when one of his subjects decided to interview him somewhat spontaneously!
Feeling blue? Try this!
The Greygoose Lounge is at the other end of the passageway from the smoking zone. Sponsored by a vodka company of the same name, the lounge is the venue for many after-show parties and sees a lot of action during the course of the day.
Their martinis are a must-try. Our recommendation would be the green apple martini... shaken not stirred. The entry however is restricted and you might have some trouble getting in if you dont have the right connections.
Bringing in the good times
Next to the Greygoose Lounge is the Kingfisher Lounge. Not as exclusive as its neighbour, Kingfisher has a far more relaxed feel and sees a lot more visitors.
It is the venue for quite many after-show parties and as they say the good times definitely don't stop here.
Hair-raising experience
Well it is actually a hair-rasing experience, the Lakme Studio. It is where women enter looking like Medusa come out as Cleopatra. Okay not exactly... but you know what we mean.
The real sad part about this fantastic studio is that it is abolutely closed for men. We really wish someone would take note.
Heard of Govinda, sir?
Sisters in arms?
Lakme model Amrit Maghera poses with who we think must be her friend. Or perhaps just a fan who was so excited by all the models roaming around so freely she wanted to take a picture with one to prove to the world that people so thin do exist in real life.
