Giant whirling disco balls, an elaborate set of a million tiny mosaic mirrors, models dancing burlesque-style, the Midival Punditz performing live -- designer Suneet Varma has very likely gone so over the top that Lakme Fashion Week is very unlikely to see a finale of such high production value for quite some time to come! Positively, definitely do not miss this one -- and be sure to catch the video of how it all transpired right here!
It all started with an automated curtain drawn back to reveal a nightclub scene -- models frozen everywhere against a mirrored backdrop, complete with staircase. To the left of the ramp, a giant windmill slowly whirled; to its right, electrica band Midival Punditz provided live music from an elevated box; and above it, giant disco balls slowly rotated. The extravagant sets were fitting with the theme of Varma's line, brought out in association with Lakme's Night Fever range of makeup -- the Night Fever Collection.
In a throwback to the '70s and '80s, the outfits were all about pop art, disco music and retro eveningwear. Here is a grab of the show opening, with the backdrop revealed in all its entirety as the models remain still as statues in place.
Punk chick
Face of Lakme Amrit Maghera looks very much the punk rock chick in a sassy, colourful dress with lacy leggings underneath. Following her turn on the catwalk, she broke out into a dance -- watch the video here.
Glitter glitter everywhere!
Face of Lakme Number Two, Lisa Haydon, sweeps out of the wings post her jiggy number in a head-to-foot sparkler.
Bikini babe
Candice Pinto struts her stuff in sheer, bright florals against a black background, topped off with a sparkling black bikini.
Halting halter
Pink, peach and strips of neon green make for a bright little backless balloon dress.
Shredding up
Next we have Marianna Dias, posing in a heavy shredded-detailing skirt and sheer brown bodice.
Red carpet sparkler
Take the plunge in this electric red carpet special -- but only if you dare to make a statement
Feline femme fatale
Varma turns to animal prints with this leopard-print cut-away to bring out the animal in you!
Ethnicwear goes sexy
We see a brown ghagra and a heavily worked dupatta -- but there's hardly any choli!
Sari by half
Nicole Faria strikes a pose in a curious ensemble -- bikini, leggings and a massive sari drape that doesn't go all the way around because it's been halved.
Keeping it casual
Spherical prints and a hint of fuschia come together to create an easygoing jumpsuit with cowl detail.
Jumpsuit dazzler
The shiny disco ball comes to mind when you set eyes on this brown sequinned number!
Jewelled elan
From showy to classy, the designer offers up a stunning draped number with jewelled neckline.
Fuss and feathers
Feathery ruffles wrap like a boa around the upper half of this ensemble, while lower down is a bright floral motif against lavender.
Chain gang
Dual layers of black and sky-blue compliment this floor-sweeper, with funky chains draping from shoulder to cuff by way of sleeves.
Prancin' and dancin'
The three faces of Lakme -- Lisa Haydon, Amrit Maghera and Indrani Dasgupta -- break out of the wings dancing '80s style in gleaming gowns!
Grooving along
Suneet Varma steps out grooving with his leading ladies to deafening applause, as bursts of tinsel shimmer down upon the ramp and the audience! What a show!
