Brihadeeswara Temple, Tamil Nadu

Ravindran Srinivasan sends this photo of the entrance gopurams of the famous Brihadeeshwara temple in Tanjore (also knows as the Tanjore Big temple) taken during a trip in 2006.

"The temple is known for its huge main gopuram (not the one in the picture), an architectural marvel because the shadow of the top of this gopuram does not fall on the ground at any time during the day across the year," he shares. "Built by Rajaraja Cholan, this is an example of the knowledge our ancestors possessed."

Hemis Gonpa, Ladakh

Brihadeeswara Temple, Tamil Nadu

"I took this picture when I visited The Big Temple at Thanjavur, one of the World Heritage sites in Tamil Nadu. This temple is considered to have been the tallest building in the world at the time of its construction, around AD 950."
