Video: Ritu Kumar's models rule the runway

Last updated on: March 30, 2010 12:34 IST

Designer Ritu Kumar showcased her collection at the opening of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

An ode to the modern and career-oriented women of a city, the line was called 'Label'. Traditional shapes were moulded into defined curves, and textures were created through the use of fabric layering, print and embroidery. Silk was used extensively in the collection in its various forms -- net, jacquard, velvet, georgette, satin, knit.

Talking about her son and creative director of 'Label' Amrish, Kumar said that he has tried to make the collection modern yet keeping in touch with the age-old Indian tradition.

"He is thinking of a very modern, career-oriented person, who reacts to these kind of clothes. But at the same time, there is a lot of ethnicity; there is a lot of use of Indian fabrics," said Kumar.

"It is not as if it is something that has not come within the roots of India. It has, but he has slanted it towards a different kind of age group, a different kind of lifestyle," she added.
