How do you buy a gadget for someone who not just brought you into the world but has also played a major role in ensuring that you turned out the way you have?
Yes, it is Mother's Day on May 9 and if you are thinking of buying your mum a tech toy to show how much she means to you, we would suggest a fair degree of caution and preparation. For, let's face it, mums are not generally the most tech-savvy people on the planet, but you can bet they'll try their best to use whatever litte gizmo you give them (after yelling that there was no need for anything, of course!).
While there are stacks of gadgets out there that might appeal to mothers, we have shortlisted five that we think are easy-to-use surefire hits with most mums.

No the Godphone is not just for geeks, but for those who gave birth to them as well.
Despite all the criticism it has received, this has got to be the most versatile devices ever, and can even fill in for a computer. It's great for taking pictures and videos, playing music and games, surfing the net and there are thousands of apps that your mum can go through, from finding recipes to looking for cures for aches and pains.
Oh, and it is a terrific phone too. Best of all, it is so easy to use that your mum will be up and running with it in no time at all. Just do not tell her the price, or she will never use it.
Kodak EasyShare Photo Frame
Mums love looking at photographs, but albums can tend to get old and frayed, so how about scanning her favourite snaps and handing them to her in this digital photo frame which has controls on the lower part of the screen, saving one the hassle of turning the frame around and hitting buttons?
It also comes with swappable face plates to change the look and can be mounted on a wall as well. She will love this one!
Infibeam Pi
Most mums love to read, so why not give her this very handy e-book reader that is extremely easy to use and is a dab hand even at displaying a number of Indian languages?
There's even the option to view photographs and listen to some music -- all in a slim form factor.
Peek
Most people might be fans of convergence, but there is something to be said for keeping things simple. And the Peek is one of the few gadgets which excels at the latter.
It handles only e-mail, has a lovely keypad, looks sleek (yes, it comes in a pink shade too) and is extremely easy to use. A perfect gadget for those mothers who like to (or would like to) send and receive mails across the world with minimal fuss.
Sony portable DVD player
The perfect gadget to let her put her feet up in any part of the world and enjoy her favourite films and music.
It has a lovely 8-inch screen which makes for easy viewing and the sound quality is more than good enough for one to just slip in a music disc and close one's eyes. And six hours of battery life will ensure that she does not need to stay in proximity of a power outlet.
