If there is a dish that represents Mumbai it is Bhel Puri. Quite like the city where it was born, it is a mishmash of all kinds of ingredients that mix magically to create a distinct taste.
Chef Hiralal of Mumbai's Khau Galli Restaurant shows us how you can prepare Bhel Puri at home.
Preparation time: About 3 minutes
Ingredients:
- Puffed rice (kurmura)
- Potatoes, boiled and mashed
- Onion, chopped
- Tomato, chopped
- Puris
- Green mint chutney
- Tamarind and dates chutney
- Chaat masala
- Garlic paste
- Lemon juice
- Sev
- Chopped coriander
- Raw mangoes, chopped
- Fried chana dal
Preparation:
- In a bowl, mix puffed rice, potatoes, onion, tomatoes, crushed puris, green mint chutney, tamarind and dates chutney, chat masala, garlic paste and lemon juice and mix well.
- Garnish with chopped raw mangoes, coriander and sev. Serve.
