9 games to watch out for in October 2010

Watch out for these nine games that are likely to raise the heat in the gaming arena in October this year.

1. Medal of Honor (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

EA's modern day reboot of the Medal of Honor series sees players step into the boots of the US armed forces as they battle hostiles deep behind enemy lines in war-torn Afghanistan.

While the single-player campaign has been worked on by EA LA, the multi-player component has been handled by DICE, veterans of multiplayer and pioneers of the Battlefield series.

2. Vanquish (Xbox 360, PS3)

Part Gears of War and part Devil may Cry, Vanquish is an over-the-top shooter from the same guys who brought you the stylish Bayonetta earlier this year.

Vanquish takes place in the near future where America in under threat from a Russian force that plans on taking her down piece by piece.

Armed with a cybernetic suit, martial arts skills, and a plethora of weapons, you have to stop the Russian invasion at any cost.

3. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (Xbox 360, PS3)

Yet another reboot hitting stores this month, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow takes the successful Castlevania franchise and turns it on its head with full-fledged 3D gameplay, intricate combat, and insane boss battles that could rival those from the Shadow of the Colossus.

What's even better is that Hideo Kojima, the mastermind behind the Metal Gear Solid series, has played the role of advisor during game development.

4. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, iPhone)

The Force Unleashed was a game ripe with potential that under delivered as far as gameplay was concerned.

With the The Force Unleashed II, LucasArts is looking at rectifying that with even more amped-up Force powers, dual-wielding of weapons, even more varied locations, enemy variety, and so on.

Plus, they're cramming enough Star Wars lore in here to satisfy fans of the series for years on end.

5. Enslaved (Xbox 360, PS3)

From the makers of Heavenly Sword comes yet another action adventure that features a chick with fiery red hair.

Enslaved takes place in the near future, where robots (surprise, surprise) are once again the bane of mankind's existence.

You play as an agitated dude called Monkey, who, along with the aforementioned fiery redhead, has to survive the perils of the land.

6. EA Sports MMA (Xbox 360, PS3, iPhone)

Mixed martial arts is a combat sport taking the world by storm today and if you aren't too keen on entering the octagon yourself, why not do it from the comfort of your living room via video games?

If games like UFC Undisputed are too technical and complicated for your liking, EA's upcoming MMA game could be what the doctor ordered.

It may not boast the same roster Undisputed does because of the official UFC backing, but it does feature some of the meanest men on the planet like Fedor Emelianenko and Randy Couture.

7. Fallout: New Vegas (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)

Part RPG (Role Playing Game) and part shooter, Fallout 3 re-introduced the Fallout franchise to a new breed of gamers worldwide by sacrificing the conventional isometric approach for a more interactive first-person shooter one.

While Bethesda work on a proper sequel, developer Obsidian have been burning the midnight oil working on a standalone expansion set in the Fallout universe and they guarantee a well-rounded, lengthy and authentic Fallout experience.

9. Smackdown vs RAW 2011 (Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, iPhone)

If mixed martial arts is a bit too technical and sober for your liking, we suggest you stick to the tried and tested WWE formula with yet another iteration of Smackdown vs RAW.

There's really nothing much to write over here as core gameplay hasn't radically evolved over the years.

Instead developer Yuke's have streamlined the game over the years with tons of tweaks to make it the highly enjoyable brawler it is today.
