Here's what designer Monisha Jaising had to offer on Day One of HDIL India Couture Week.
Inspired by Nyx, the mythological Greek goddess of the night, Monisha Jaising's collection, showcased in Mumbai at the HDIL India Couture Week was an even mix of the dainty and the dominating.
With a colour palette that moved from white, dove-grey and rose to black, deep purple and blood-red, the garments sought to reflect the theme of goddesses who metamorphose into blood-sucking denizens of the dark at night.
Both delicate drapes and corset fits defined the line, comprising mainly Western eveningwear. Chic cocktails and flowing gowns took to the runway and as the designer herself put it, the showstoppers were the clothes themselves. Take a look.
We start off with Tapur Chatterjee in a svelte one-sided LBD.
Next we have this strapless corset with glittering motif, worn over a feathered mini.
There's nothing more feminine than peach lace and it's further softened by a pale yellow feathered skirt.
Haute and hot
If you've got the gams to carry it off, this cutwork skirt should be right up your alley, its dare-to-bare vibe kept in check by a well-fitted jacket.
The designer hikes up hemlines further with this tiny tunic dress sporting rich gold embroidery.
Muted metallic tones bring out the best in this one-sided rouched number with sharp asymmetrical cut.
This cocktail moves from a sheer, glitter-tinged bodice into Jaising's by now trademark feathers.
This lace-lined teal mini moves in an ethnic direction with its embellishments at the neck.
Off-white satin moves from short to long and fitted to free-flowing, with paisley swirls adorning one shoulder.
Beauty in black
Carol Gracias strikes a pose in a black dress that has feathered and cutwork detailing.
The slinky sexiness of this black cocktail is offset by a wispy white robe with patchwork motif.
And finally, we have this one-sided red evening gown with a daring cut at the bodice.
