We invited you to share stories of your most unforgettable Karva Chauth with us to celebrate the occasion today. Here, reader Amit Goel offers us the male perspective:

So many women have been writing about their experiences, so I thought why not share mine, as I fast along with my wife and this is my eighth Karva Chauth. It's always a great experince to share this day with my wife and both of us thoroughly enjoy it, though it becomes very taxing physically.

The funny part is that ours is an intercaste marriage. My wife is a Punjabi and I am a Baniya. There is no sargi in our family, but my mother takes tea after doing her puja in the evening. But my sweet wife follows the strictest regime (out of her own choice) and we end up with no sargi and no evening tea. In fact, we go without water or food for almost 24 hours at a stretch.

It really becomes funny in the evening, when both my wife and I roam around our society compound with a water bottle in hand to spot the moon and break the fast! We have already identified the vantage point from where we can spot it at the earliest.

My reason for observing this fast is not religious, but for the unconditional love that we both share.
