Pix: Meet the young turks of Indian fashion

They saw their careers take root at Lakme Fashion Week in the last few years. Now, in a showing that's the first of its kind, these designers put up a united front and visited looks from their past to create new collections for 'Five years of GenNext'.

A massive effort went into this newest venture from the LFW. Ten designers from the last five years who created their niche in the Indian fashion world after qualifying for the 'GenNext' category came together to revisit the outfits that first got them noticed.

But instead of dusting off old ensembles and re-featuring them, all of them re-created new ones using these tried and tested themes -- take a look.

First up was designer Aneeth Arora with her collection 'Global Local'; seen here is an orange tunic with bell sleeves and tie-up detail at the neck.

Arora steps out alongside one of her designs, a white print summer dress with matching overcoat.

Next was Nitin Bal Chauhan's 'Freedom Freedom', which kicked off with this origami-influenced dress, using newspaper to create the look.

Here we see Chauhan's piece de resistance, created entirely out of spools of thread and (right) the designer himself, in military garb.

Kallol Datta's 'Black Humorist' was rather self-defining and started off, not surprisingly, with an all-black sack-like maxi.'

Here is another of the designer's outfits, adorned with stars and with slouching silhouette. As elusive as always, Datta shunned the spotlight of the runway to such an extent that we were unable to get a shot of him alongside!

Deconstruction' by Kunal Rawal kicked off with, well, a male model in construction-worker's garb -- and you should have seen the ladies' faces when he took the coat off!

Rawal seemed to enjoy his turn on the ramp with his boys in tow. Don't miss the locks on those suit pockets!

The wolf-whistles were hardly sophisticated when this bikini, the first from Nachiket Barve's 'Neo-Sophisticate', hit the catwalk!

Seen here is an ankle-skimming orange gown with multi-hued cutwork bolero and (right) Barve himself, soaking in the applause.

Anuj Sharma's 'Simplicity' was, not surprisingly, all-white, with nips, tucks and unusual twists characterising the clothes.

Sharma steps out alongside one of his outfits, a one-shouldered flairing number with little balls of fabric adorning the bodice.

Rahul Mishra opted for a chic black and gold bee hive-patterned dress to open his line 'Evolution'.

Here we see Mishra alongside another, more structured number in black and blinding silver.

This silk threaded ensemble was from Rimzim Dadu's 'Texture Machinist' collection.

Rimzim Dadu proved her mastery oftailoring with this cut-work vest, worn over black shorts.

Sailex NG, showing for the second time today, put this seductive cut-away gown on displayas part of his 'Glam Rock' creations.

Like Datta, Sailex chose totrick the cameras, but here is another of his of his lovely outfits -- an all-black mini with plunging lace neckline and satin texturing.

And finally, we have Swapnil Shinde's 'Provocative', which quite lived up to its name -- check out the hard plastic skirt, worn with suspenders over a corset.

The designer steps out alongside his showstopping entry, a red slit-striped number that's only for the brave-hearted!
