Video: Manish Arora's wacky 'Marias'

Maverick designer Manish Arora closed Day 1 of Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai with a collection inspired by the Art Deco era and Metropolis, the cult film from that era.

He opened the show with a black-and-white clip of the 1927 classic movie by Fritz Lang, where a mad scientist in a laboratory creates a 'machine human' by experimenting upon a young woman, Maria.

This was followed by a short laser show, after which Arora's 'Marias' made their way onto the runway in bright, super-sparkly, outrageous silhouettes, colourful wigs and pasted-on lips. Check the video!
