PIX: Indian weaves go fabulously chic

Based on a collection of stories, Paromita Banerjee's latest offerings drew on Indian influences, hand-woven fabrics and three different colour schemes to complete the looks.

Mughal patka embroidery, khadi, discharge printed silks -- these were just a few of the many defining factors that designer Paromita Banerjee employed to create her fall/winter line, presented on Day Five of Lakme.

Demure dupattas, kurtas, lehengas, waistcoats and more stepped out onto the ramp in black and white, then indigo and finally in a gamut of other colours to create three different 'stories'. Take a look.

A black, lightly dotted kurta and red churidaar, together with a fading black-white dupatta are first on the runway.

Floral touches

Bright flower embroidery darts out on this grey skirt, while the shirt shows off a leaf pattern. A red lined jacket sets off the whole outfit.

Khadi couture

Nethra Raghuraman strikes a pose in a khadi dress with asymmetrical hemline and a blue-red stole.

Handloom musings

We liked this checkered handloom scarf, worn over a layered dress and silk salwar pants.

Along leafy lines

The designer offers up more leaf motifs with the embroidery on this wispy blue skirt, worn with a black silk kurta and dupatta.

Drawstring dress

Olive green tones define this drawstring dress, topped off with a checkered scarf in red and blue.

Simple style

No frills attached -- but then the simplest churidaar kurta sometimes looks the best.

Layer upon layer

White and mustard come together on this layered dress, worn with a double-layered dotted bolero in indigo and green.

Last in line

And finally we have a grey collared shirt with French cuffs and printed wrap, worn with a textured lehenga-style skirt.

An embroidered tassar shawl tops off the whole.

Brief appearance

Paromita steps out briefly before disappearing back into the wings.
