What: Announcing scholarships for the Chevening Rolls-Royce Science and Innovation Leadership Programme.

About the programme
The scholarships will be for places on the new Chevening Rolls-Royce Science and Innovation Leadership Programme, which will be a unique programme for mid-career Indian professionals working in the fields of science, innovation, and related public administration. The new Chevening award for India is supported by Rolls Royce. It will be hosted by the Sad Business School, the University of Oxford.

The programme will include a wide range of modules including bridging pure research and business/ scientific entrepreneurship, practical processes of innovation, commercialisation of research and technology transfer. The course is aimed at some of India's brightest scientists, business people and public servants.

The Chevening Rolls-Royce Science and Innovation Leadership Programme opens for applications on October 1, 2010.

Full details of the programme are in the process of being finalised. Information on how to apply will be published on the British Council and British High Commission websites shortly.

TAPMI launches India's first Blue Ocean Strategy centre


What: TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), one of the leading B-schools in India has launched the India Blue Ocean Strategy Research Centre (IBOSRC) in collaboration with Blue Ocean Strategy Regional Centre, Malaysia. The centre will train Indian corporates, students, and faculty to strategise and develop competition free market system.

The Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) is an internationally proven system that makes competition irrelevant by creating new market spaces through simultaneous achievement of differentiation and low cost. It creates competition free markets.

IBOSRC will conduct in-depth empirical and case study research to build a strong body of knowledge in the emerging area of BOS in India. The Centre will also be involved in training, faculty development and education activities specific to the Blue Ocean Strategy.

New, free TOEFL test-taker video launched


What: Educational Testing Service (ETS) has released a new video to familiarise English language learners with the TOEFL testing process. 

The six-minute "Welcome to the TOEFL iBT Testing Site" video walks students through the "test day" experience and previews the identification requirements, check-in procedures, security protocols, and testing sequence to increase awareness of the testing process. The video provides an accurate snapshot of what students can expect during the test administration.

In addition to the new test-taker video, a comprehensive collection of TOEFL test preparation materials are available at little or no charge to students to make studying for the TOEFL test easier than ever. The available resources include:

  • TOEFL Go Anywhere Website: Available in English, Chinese, and Korean, the website presents helpful information regarding the TOEFL test, as well as answers to commonly asked questions, valuable study tips, sample test questions, a searchable database of the more than 7,500 colleges and universities that accept the TOEFL test, and access to registration.
  • The Official Guide to the TOEFL Test: The best-selling third-edition of The Official Guide to the TOEFL Test, created by ETS, contains two full-length authentic practice tests.
  • TOEFL Practice Online: TOEFL Practice Online simulates the testing experience and provides instant feedback on all four skills measured on the TOEFL test -- listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
  • TOEFL TV Channel on YouTube:  The TOEFL TV channel offers English language learners an online portal to learn from teachers and students to help improve their English skills. Through the use of video, students are exposed to study tips and best practices in fun and engaging ways.
  • Lexile Measures: Developed by MetaMetrics, Lexile Measures match a student's TOEFL iBT Reading section score to current books that reflect a student's reading ability and interests to help monitor and strengthen their English reading skills.
