UK scholarships for Indian students

There are a number of scholarships you can start looking at if you are interested in going for post-graduate studies to the UK. Here are a few to begin with.

What: Applications are invited for the Charles Wallace Scholarship 2012-13 for short research fellowships of 2-3 months, funded artist residencies, as well as one year fully-funded awards for master's level study offered by the Charles Wallace Trust.

Who is eligible: Applicants must be Indian citizens living in India, be aged between 25 and 38, have a degree or diploma or professional qualification in their field of specialisation, preferably have significant work experience, and should not have recieved a CWIT grant in the last five years.

Applicable fields of study: Visual arts, performance, film, photography and design within the arts domain; and conservation architecture; management of heritage projects or sites; conservation of materials like timber, stone, metal, textiles, paper, armour, paintings, photographs, and film; management of museums and collections within the domain of heritage conservation.

Important dates: November 25, 2011 for one-year master's programmes; December 31, 2011 for short research and professional visits; and 31 March, 2011 for artist residencies.

Goa Education Trust Scholarships


What: The Goa Education Trust Scholarship 2012-13 is open for applications. These include short research fellowships as well as full scholarships in any area desired for post-graduate studies in the United Kingdom. Successful Goan applicants of this programme in the past have gone on to complete degrees in subjects as diverse as journalism, education, ancient history, and law.

Who is eligible: The applicants should be a resident of Goa or born of Goan parents, be an Indian citizen with a valid passport at the time of application, be not more than 30 years of age at the time of application, be a graduate with an excellent academic track record and extra curricular achievements, and have confirmed admission for any academic course of study in the UK for one year.

IELTS Scholarship


What: The British Council IELTS Scholarship 2011 worth Rs 3,00,000 for students pursuing one year post graduate study in the United Kingdom.

Who is eligible: Applicants must be residents and citizens of India, beginning full time post graduate study outside India in 2011, attend a higher education institute that accepts IELTS as part of its admission requirements, have an IELTS score of 6.5 or above, have taken their most recent IELTS test with the British Council, be able to provide an acceptance letter by 13 August, 2011

Important dates: July 30, 2011 is the final date for applications to reach your local British Council office.
