IMAGES: Lotus lovelies float onto the runway

From hot little cocktail numbers to elegant ethnic ensembles, Nandita Thirani's latest collection, designed together with her daughter Anuradha, had something for everyone. Photographs: Uttam Ghosh

Inspired by the "simplicity and elegance" of the lotus flower, which "makes it one of the best examples of divine ideation", mother-daughter designer duo Nandita and Anuradha Thirani collaborated together on a line for the very first time and showcased it on Day One of Lakme Fashion Week.

An appropriate mix of young and classic outfits, which carried both the motifs and colours of the lotus mixed in with black, white and nude tones, were seen on the ramp.

Here, Nethra Raghuraman shines in a bling-thing skirt and multi-panelled jacket.

Next we have a lovely little crop top that could well double up as a choli, together with a double-layered flair skirt.

A delightful sequinned and sheer jacket spruces up black palazzo pants.

Kavita Kharayat steps out in a bubblegum pink number topped off with sparkles and applique work.

Dresses take a backseat as ethnicwear comes into focus, starting with this pleated sari and contrast velour blouse.

An attractive red striped anarkali, topped off with a little waistcoat/bolero makes a statement.

Rich velour and sheer panels blend well together on this lovely ensemble.

A royal combination of rich red, black and gold gives an aristocratic touch to this lehenga and jacket design.

The designers revert to Westernwear with the showstopper, a stunning black dress with a dipping hemline and lotus-like panels down the sides.
