6 attractive scholarships for Indian students

You top every semester but inadequate finance pulls your aspiring feathers down? Try applying for the most attractive and profitable scholarships and bring down your cost of education.

From science and engineering to arts and archaelogy, some of these scholarships will give you the much needed edge to your career besides helping you cut down on your overall cost of education.

1. Scholarships in Forensic Science, Police Science and Criminology

This scholarship was introduced with the aim to promote studies in the field of police-rules, regulations and set-up, and to escalate research in the booming field of criminology (Probably due to crime escalation).

This novel scholarship is introduced by the Bureau of Police Research and Development.

It aspires to create a technologically loaded Indian Police force along with the overall improvement of the forensic science scene in India.

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree with second class in the subjects of public administration, law or political science.

The eligibility requires one to have a post-graduate degree having secured 55 per cent in criminology, sociology or social work.

2. Scholarships in Life/Physical/Atmospheric/Engineering Sciences and Mathematics

The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in tandem with the Department of Science and Technology, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi is the sponsor for this 'sciencey' field.

For availing a fellowship in science, students in the first, second and third year of their graduation course in medicine, pharmacy, science or veterinary science are eligible.

Students in their first or second year of their post graduation are also eligible. For engineering fellowships, students in their second or third year of their BE or BTech courses are eligible.

The successful candidate is allowed to work on a research project. This candidate will work from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, or JNCASR and other epitomically reputed institutes.

The scholarship carries a golden highlight on your resume.

3. Scholarships in Performing, Literary and Plastic Arts

This scholarship is granted by the Department of Culture, Goverment of India.

It aims at acquiring an implementation for the country's art form, which is a traditional one.

This scholarship is available for exemplary performers who are creative in the relative fields -- performing, literacy and plastic arts.

This scholarship comes in two types: one is a junior fellowship in which 85 scholarships are granted and an amount of Rs 6,000 pm is given to artists between the ages of 25 and 40.

The other is a senior fellowship in which 85 scholarships (amounting to Rs 12,000 pm ) are granted to to artists who are above 40 years of age.

4. Scholarships in Mineralogy, Petroleum Technology, Archaeology and Tourist Management

The aspiring youth needs to carry out research overseas due to lack of certain resources.

The Austrian Government Scholarship sponsored by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, offers a scholarship for research overseas.

The vast scholarship fields range from the upcoming tourist management to research in archaeology.

Research in mineralogy and petroleum technology is also offered as this field is booming due to the urgent need of several nations for these resources post the disgruntled US – Iran relations.

Speaking of the duration of the scholarship, tourist management would be a short course whereas mineralogy would be a full nine-months course and research in archaeology would also be a nine-months course.

The applicant needs to possess a bachelor's degree (related to scholarship field) with minimum 55 per cent to be eligible.


5. Fair and Lovely Foundation Project Saraswati Scholarship

This lovely scholarship is for a degree in India and is sponsored by Hindustan Lever Limited.

The applicants need to be women who have bagged a minimum of 60 per cent at the secondary and higher secondary level for scholarships at the undergraduate level.

For post graduation scholarships, the candidate needs to be a graduate.

This scholarship is for a two-year period.

Applications are invited through newspapers on an all-India basis.

6. Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) Scholarship for higher studies

The Bharat Petroleum Corporation has sponsored a scholarship for candidates seeking to purse higher studies (degree in India or degree abroad).

A pre-requisite being that the candidate must be below 25 years of age.

A minimum of 60 percent of marks at the graduation level is also a must.

Students who are already registered in a full-time post graduation course can apply too.

Applications for applying for the beneficial BPCL Scholarship are available online from September 1 to September 30 every year.
