19 tablets that cost less than Rs 15,000

Tablet market is getting hotter day by day in India and it is propelled by low cost tablets that are flooding market. In October, 19 tablets were launched in the country and all of them were low cost tablet and the cheapest tablet was priced at Rs 3,999.

Here is the list of the tablets launched last month.

HCL Me G1

HCL Me G1 tablet has Android 4.0.4 operating system, a 1.2 GHz dual core processor and 1 GB of RAM. The 9.7-inch display is an IPS 2 panel with very healthy resolution.

The tablet also has 16 GB of internal memory and micro SD card slot with up to 32 GB support. HCL Me G1 has a 2 megapixel rear camera and a 0.3 megapixel front camera.

For connectivity, the tablet has Bluetooth 4.0 which is the latest version and offers very fast connection. It also has Wi-Fi, 3G, HDMI and USB support.

HCL has put in a fairly large 7000 mAH battery in the tablet which should offer good battery backup. The tablet also gets a very reasonable price of Rs 14,999.

Zync Z1000

Zync Global, an Indian tablet brand, had launched a new 9.7-inch tablet, called Z1000, for Rs 10,990 in India.

The Zync Z1000 currently runs on Android 4.0 and will get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade in the future. The tablet also houses 9.7-inch IPS panel display with a healthy 1024x768p resolution. It has a 1.5GHz Cortex A8 processor and 1 GB RAM.

Zync Z1000 comes with in-built 3G support with voice calling feature. Besides, there is a 0.3 megapixel front camera, 2 megapixel rear camera, 8 GB internal storage which is expandable upto 32 GB, a SIM card slot, mini HDMI port and two micro USB ports. The tablet, however, doesn't have GPS support, though navigation is available through cellular network.

There is a 7000 mAh battery at core in this tablet. Additionally, the company is also offering freebies worth Rs 1,350 which include a lycra pouch, screen protector, pair of earphones and 1 month subscription for BigFlix.

The new iBall Slide 3G 7334 tablet is priced at Rs 10,990 and is claimed to be the first dual SIM tablet in India. The tablet also comes with built-in FM Transmitter (you can create your own FM station in a very small area like home or car) which is again a first for a tablet in India.

The tablet runs on Cortex A9 1GHz processor and has Android 4.0 ICS operating system. Another special feature of the tablet is the 3G support with both its SIM slots (normally in phones only one slot supports 3G while the other works on 2G).

The tablet has a 2 megapixel camera at both front and back. The 7-inch multi-touch capacitive screen of the tablet comes with a healthy 1024x600 resolution. There is also built-in GPS and AGPS which makes it a great car accessory especially with the addition of FM transmitter.

The tablet also has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, micro SD card slot and HDMI port as additional connectivity options.

Karbonn Smart Tab 3 Blade comes with a 1.2 GHz processor and Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 operating system. The device features 512 MB of RAM memory, which will be good enough for daily tasks and gaming as well. Blade has a 7-inch capacitive touch display with 480 x 800 pixel resolution.

The tablet features 3G connectivity via USB dongles, and supports Wi-Fi as well.

The Karbonn Smart Tab 3 Blade comes with 1 GB onboard storage along with 32 GB of additional storage available via micro SD memory cards. For connectivity, besides Wi-Fi, USB on the go and a host port it has 3G through USB, and an HDMI port for connectivity to projectors or TVs.

The tablet has been priced at Rs 14,999 and if performance matches the spec sheet then this is not very expensive and is well worth the money in terms of features.

To strengthen its existing tablet portfolio, India based Pantel Technologies has launched yet another 7-inch display bearing tablet, called Penta T-Pad WS703C, for Rs 6,999.

It comes with a SIM slot and allows users to make voice calls. Moreover, the tablet is available with bundled offer form Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

BSNL will provide 4 GB of 2G data for Rs 125 and 2 GB of 3G data free for Rs 150, both valid for 60 days, to the consumers at the time of purchase of the Penta T-Pad tablet.

Penta T-Pad WS703C runs on Android 2.3 and is powered by 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 processor. It has 4 GB of internal storage, 512 MB of RAM, inbuilt 2G SIM slot and also is compatible with 3G dongles. Apart from that this model includes features like dual camera, HDMI port, mini USB port and a TF Card slot for storage expandability of up to 32 GB.

The Android 4.0 based tablet is priced at Rs 6,500 and comes with an in-built Wi-Fi, 3G dongle support and HDMI port. The tablet weighs 300 grams and is 12mm thick.

The tablet only has a front 0.3 megapixel front camera and there is no rear camera. The tablet has a bigger built-in speaker for louder sound. The tablet comes with a 2300 mAh battery which is not very large by tablet standards.

Priced at Rs 7,249, this tablet comes with SIM calling and thus is aptly called Funbook Talk. Besides, one can also access 3G using a dongle through its USB 2.0 port.

According to the product specifications, the tablet will come with a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor and 512 MB of RAM. Besides, it comes with Android ICS operating system.

The tablet has a 7-inch capacitive LCD screen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. It has a 0.3 megapixel front facing camera through which video calling is possible. Micromax has fitted a 2800 mAh battery in the Funbook Talk, which the company says will provide 5 hours of talktime and 112 hours of standby time.

The device has 4 GB of internal memory but one can add up to 32 GB through an external micro SD card.

Zync Z930

Low cost tablet brand, Zync has launched another Android operating system based tablet in the Indian market. Called as the Zync Z930, the 7-inch display based tablet has been affordably priced at Rs 5,499 and comes preinstalled with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

But that's not all as the company is also promising that the tablet can be upgraded to the Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean platform. Zync has also promised to release the upgrade for the device soon.

The Zync Z930 tablet comes with a multi-touch LCD TFT capacitive touchscreen with 800 x480 pixels resolution. The tablet is powered with a 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 architecture based processor, Mali 400 GPU, 512 MB RAM, and 4 GB in-built memory which can be expanded to 32 GB.

The tablet comes with Wi-Fi connectivity and also offers 3G support via USB dongles. Zync Z930 has a primary 0.3 megapixel camera in the front which will come in handy while making video calls too. There is a 3600 mAh battery to power the device for a good 3-4 hours of video playback and net browsing time.

It has two USB ports -- a standard USB port for easy peripheral connectivity and micro USB connector. There is a 3.5 mm earphone jack and a HDMI port as well for external displays.

BSNL has launched a new tablet called WishTel Ira Icon, which comes with a 7-inch TFT LCD capacitive multi touchscreen with 800x480 pixels resolution for Rs 10,000. BSNL has also announced that buyers of the tablet will get 2 GB of data for 60 days for free, by either opting for its 2G or 3G connection.

The WishTel Ira Icon runs Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, and is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor. It has 1 GB of RAM that would be enough to run most of the applications and games found on the Google Play Store.

The tablet has built-in 3G SIM slot and also supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It comes with built-in stereo speakers and a microphone and supports SIM calling.

WishTel Ira Icon also gets ports like USB, SD card, and HDMI. It has a 0.3 megapixel front camera while a 2 megapixel camera is there on its back side. It has 4 GB internal memory, which is though expandable up to 32 GB.

The tablet comes with a 4000 mAh battery with claimed browsing time of 4-5 hours.

Public sector company, BSNL has announced three new tablets in the range of Rs 3,999-Rs 10,990. Manufactured by Terracom, a little known company based in India, the tablets come with Android ICS and are being launched by BSNL with data benefits. As per BSNL, buyers of the tablets can avail 2 GB of free data for 60 days, by either opting for its 2G or 3G connection.

The tablets are named as Lofty TZ 100, Lofty TZ 200 and Lofty TZ 300.

Lofty TZ 100 is priced at Rs 10,990, this is the most expensive among the three. It has a 7-inch capacitive screen with 1024x600 resolution. It has 1 GHz Cortex A9 processor, Android ICS operating system, 3 megapixel rear camera, 0.3 megapixel front camera for voice chats, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, 32 GB of expandable storage slot, and a 4200 mAh battery that is expected to give it decent running time.

Besides, the tablet has GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. It has also HDMI and USB ports.

Lofty TZ 200 is priced at Rs 6,499 and comes with a 7-inch capacitive screen but with only 800x480 resolution. It too has a 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 processor, Android ICS operating system, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB internal storage which though is expandable to up to 32 GB and 0.3 megapixel front camera for video chats. However, there is no rear camera in the Lofty TZ 200.

It has a smaller battery than the TZ 100 but its 3000 mAh battery is expected to provide decent back up. The Lofty TZ 200 also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, HDMI ports for connectivity. Voice calling feature is not there but users can access internet by using dongles through its USB port.

Lofty TZ 300 is the cheapest of the three and is priced at Rs 3,999. Like the TZ 200, it too does not have voice calling feature but can access internet via a dongle through its USB port.

Like the other two it too has a 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 processor and runs on Android ICS operating system. Besides, it has 512 MB RAM, 4 GB internal storage which though is expandable to up to 32 GB, 3000 mAh battery, and a 0.3 megapixel front camera for video calls. Like in Lofty TZ 200, it too does not have a rear camera.

Unlike the other two, it has a 7-inch resistive screen. It has a 3000 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, and a USB port for connectivity. It neither has an HDMI port nor Bluetooth like the other two.

MTNL Teracom Lofty TZ-300 and TZ-200

MTNL in association with Teracom, an Indian company working in telecom and power infrastructure sectors, had launched two new tablets Teracom Lofty TZ-300 and TZ-200 with SIM connectivity.

Lofty tablets come bundled with MTNL SIM cards with data plans at discounted rates. Lofty tab is available at the MTNL Sanchar Haats and Teracom stores in Delhi as well as on online portals too. The Teracom Lofty Tab TZ-300 and TZ-200 have been priced at Rs 3,899 and Rs 6,299 respectively.

Both tablets run on Android 4.0 ICS operating system and are powered by a 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 processor. On the memory front both have 4 GB of internal memory which is further expandable up to 32 GB. The phones have 512 MB RAM and battery storage of 3000 mAh.

The Teracom Lofty Tab TZ-300 has a 7-inch multi touch resistive screen whereas Teracom Lofty TZ-200 possesses a 7-inch multi touch capacitive screen. Apart from that both tablets have a 0.3 megapixel front camera and come with Wi-Fi, HDMI support and 3G support through a USB dongle.
